550HP is right - we have plenty of customers in Canada.

    One more question.

I will look into the glider kits, but I would like to know one more thing.

Are the current Detroit Diesel 60 series engines the same as my current 2004 60-series? Or do the new ones now have a DPF, and are thus less efficient than my current motor?

Why is there only Freightliner Coronados that I can get with the 12.7?

    Do you have Cascadia gliders?

12.7 is better than the 14.0 and no the new detroits have a dpf and are nothing like yours.

The only problem I have with the gliders is their selection of trucks.

The Coronado has worse aerodynamics, turning, and has a longer wheelbase than the Columbia and Cascadia.

The Cascadia is FL's new baby. They have spent 10's of millions in development and advertising. Don't look for them to be offering gliders kits anytime soon. Would defeat the whole idea of the program. If you are getting 7mpg now then why are you looking. I would do my maint and baby that sucker as long as I could. Who knows what may be available in a year or two. Put your savings into account for when you really need to think about changing rigs.

I have my annual inspection coming up within 2 weeks, and I have some major repairs to take care of if I were to keep the truck.

I test drove the Cascadia today with the Detroit 60, 515hp engine. Very quiet and smooth ride compared to the Columbia. Much higher quality materials used as well in the interior.

Pre-07 cats are the way to go. 07-10 you're pretty much screwed with everything, though the cummins is a HECK OF A LOT SIMPLIER than the cats. After 2010 unless you want to fill up with cow pee you'll be running a cummins (all others will be running SCRs like europe). CARB and the EPA wants to stop the glider business (not to mention truck manufacturers won't be making pre-07 gliders for very much longer anyhow) so its probably good to get what you want before 2010.

Major repairs on a truck that you know is cheaper than being upside-down on a $100,000 note with a crappy engine and a load of downtime for repairs.

I have a Cat C-15 500hp with close to 850k on the clock and we put injectors in it and that's it. One went bad so we replaced them all. Truck still pulls hard and we can squeeze 7.7mpg out of it under a 15k load in a Classic XL. I drove a loaner 2000 volvo 430/470 Detroit Series 60 for about 6 months and couldn't stop the thing from leakin oil. If you've never owned a cummins or a cat, I'd give'm a try. I'm am MORE than impressed with this cat. Other than that, you should have a maintenaince account for these repairs. That's bad business to not take care of the truck that buys your dinner. Where's your money going?. Invest back in your business and it'll invest in you.
