I have found several brokers that are willing to pay , for companies or drivers they can depend on, right now most of our freight is above 2 dollars, on long haul .

Rates are definitely so so. Since the beginning of March I've noticed an uptick. My best load over the past few weeks has been $2.38/mi, my worst $1.47, and everything else has averaged in between. I try not to focus solely on cpm, but that's an example of what I've been seeing. I'm leased and pay a flat weekly fee, so I get 100% of the load. On an average week that fee amounts to about 10%.

right now we are seeing 2.68 a mile out of a mill, and they tarp it for you, and have a few more that pays a bit more, but we also get calls for loads that range from a 1.35 to 1.50 , but have to say i wont send my drivers for those loads, it not worth our drivers time .

If I'm hauling I try and get $140 per hour for stepdeck or flatbed and $160 per hour for detach lowboy. The reason I figure hourly is when we do haul something it's usually short hauls and we usually spend more time loading and unloading than we do racking up miles. Most of our hauls are under 200 miles.

We have 4 trucks but they are mainly to haul our own equipment. So they will sit if I can't get a premium hauling for hire. There have been many times I have got other companies to haul our loads, while our trucks sit, because there are just so many people willing to work cheaper than I will.

I run 4 load boards because frankly i like to see the rates that people post, and it truly amazes me that people are willing to haul , for a buck to a buck and a quarter. Some think that is an awesome rate, but they dont take in consideration, insurance, fuel, tolls, repairs, just your everyday expenses.

i have had to learn to curb my tongue talking to some of the brokers, because i have wanted to say are you just plain stupid or do you not know what it takes to run a truck. dont tell me a load that is 583 miles is paying 1.30 a mile and i watch the same load appear every time it cycles.
