Across the board the standard is 2 weeks and 2 days. But trust me, it's not worth it. I usually stay out 4-6 weeks and go home from Wednesday/Thursday to Monday.

Melton does not require HM. I don't have mine, though I plan to get it soon.

sounds like it's workin gout for you. I live near tacoma, WA. You go up in that area much? I'm wondering if they would let me take a 10hr break at my house if I was in the area. Not sure how they handle parking.

That's pretty intense. Even though I don't have a family at home to report to, I'm wondering if I could do that right off the bat. Maybe work up to it.

No, never been to Washington. But I've been through most of the West. But you have to understand that Melton's customer base is predominantly North East and east coast. So you'd be out longer than 2 weeks. Probably 3-4 at a time. But it's worth it. The last 2 checks have been over 1200.

Maybe I'll start with one of the local flat bed companies then after a year, go to melton and start at the 48/mile rate.

It's hard, that's no joke. But you and the family get used to it and when you go home for 4-5 days and actually get to relax... It's nice. Also, Melton has a deal that if you are within 75 miles of the house while on a load you can stop by the house as long as you want so long as the load is delivered on time. There's been 2 times I've had a load that needed to go to Tulsa (I live right outside tulsa) and I'd be in Tulsa Saturday morning. Well, the consignee is not open on weekends so I get to be home all weekend and is doesn't affect the home time days I've saved up. Also, if you put in to be home on Wednesday but they get you home on Monday then they give you Monday and Tuesday for free. You can come back early if you want to, and you'll still get to keep the days you didn't take! So let's say you had 4 days and wanted to be home on Thursday and be back rolling on Monday. Well let's say they get you home on Monday instead. You could come back to the truck on Friday and they would take only 1 day off your profile leaving you with 3 days saved up. Pretty cool of them!

If money is of no object then I'd do local. But most local companies, or any that pay worth a ####, won't hire you without at least a year of experience doing flatbed.

Lol. Ikr I worked for melton for 2 years then left them to go to jordan carriers out of natchez Mississippi. Home every weekend sometimes every other weekend and banked much more than at melton. This dude up top sounds to much like a bot. But I may be wrong. Melton used to be good. When I first started with them they only had lime 540 trucks then a year and a half later around 1200. Talk about a turnover rate. That transition sucked hard.
