Do any drivers here have Crohn's Disease? I will be starting to drive soon, and wondered if this will come up on the DOT Physical? I was just Diagnosed in May of this year, but we have gotten it under control with meds but they say at some point they will have to remove the cecum.
Those who do have it, have you ever had any flare up while on the road?
For the uninitiated, Crohn's Disease is an Auto-immune Disease where the immune system attacks the intestines and basically destroys them. It is treatable with meds, but not curable. In most cases it is possible to live a normal life with Crohn's(with the exception of taking 9.5 pills a day).
Any drivers with Crohn's?

I have it. Was diagnosed in Jan. I'm down to three pills a day. just starting my first flare up, So I'll have to let you know. So far it's not been to bad. I just hope I've caught it in time before it gets to bad.

Longshot379,
I have a friend with Crohn's and it is pretty severe for him.
Do you mind saying what medication you can take while driving?
Thanks. -
Right now I'm taking Azathioprine(Imuran), Prednisone(Deltasone) and Asacol. I have checked FMCSA and cannot find anything but narcotic pain meds listed. These are not on the ban list.
Valjean Thanks this. -

I had a roomate with chrons. Very advanced and very bad. Got him onto herbal supplements through a guy called Dr. Schultze. He is now asymptomatic. will it work for everyone? I don't know. But for him it did. Check it out sometime by googling herbdoc dot com.

I'm taking Prednisone(1.5 pills/day), 6-Mecaptopurine(6-MP)(1.5 pills/day) and Pentasa(Mesalamine)(8 pills/day 4g total)($400/mo). We are weaning off the Prednisone in favor of the 6-MP. I can't take the cheaper generic for Pentasa because it is Sulfa based and I'm allergic to Sulfa drugs.
