Found a nice clean Volvo, its a 1999 and only 500,000 miles. 12.7 detroit and 10 speed trans and 2.79 rear-ends. The trans is a Meritor 10 speed. Everything is tight on the old truck. Will be singling it out and pulling RV's with it. Gross weight should be around 36,000 lbs max. Most times around 30,000 lbs Truck has 22.5's on it all wheels are Alcoa's. Its also the mid roof sleeper.

That's a great truck! How much are they asking for it? Sounds like it could be a good buy. Good call going pre-emissions, assuming you don't need to go into CA. We have a '99 770.
-
Buddy of mine has it. He offered it to me for $9000. Does need new tires and a few small items fixed. Jake is not working not sure what that issue is?
Pete -
$9000 is a good price, especially with that low of miles, which seems really low. You sure it's not 1,500,000? Ours had 1.3 when we bought it this past October. Even still, it's a good price. See if you can have it checked out - compression test, oil sample, dyno'd even, to verify the condition of the engine. It's not expected to be perfect but it would be good to know if it's going to need an Inframe soon.

I'd buy it from him for 9k, then put it up for sale for 40k. The KR crowd would be all over that in 30 minutes, then they'd be calling in on Sunday and telling KR how they just made the deal of the century. And he'd be like "I totally agree! Great job."
Just teasing you and having some fun out of the KR minions.
I'd buy it off him before he realizes what people are willing to give for that kind of stuff here lately. Good luck with it.

In my experience on the 12.7's is the jake solenoids don't seem to last too long. Usually it only takes out 1 stage when 1 fails. Could be a bad or misadjusted clutch switch as well.

Thanks guys will look it over more Monday. As for the miles it may well have more on it. Buddy of mine is a Mechanic and good on the 12.7's along with the Volvo engines and trucks there self's. Will be having him to through the truck. Find anything that needs fixing on it. And give me a report on the truck. He will also drop the oil pan and check the rod and Main bearings while at it. Plus check the Bull Gear while hes at it.
Been looking for a nice 12.7 in a good truck for a while. And this one fits the bill, was not sure of the 2.79 gears. But being it will be used to pull low weight loads. That will be a plus also.
Did run up on a 1998 379 Pete in Jan. Complete rebuild on a 12.7, and a 13 speed trans. Stand up sleeper. Truck after looking at it had 2.5 million miles on it. Needed king pins, all brake drums and shoes. Both doors needed pins and window tracks.
Thinking this one is a gem.

It has 2.79's because it's a direct drive 10sp no OD. Maybe you know that, but just throwing it out there.
-
Yes sir I did know that. But lots of trucks were 3.55's even with direct 10 speeds.. Was glad to see this one with 2.79's.

Really? Seems like an odd combo. Maybe you could post a reference.
