America needs high taxes to support one World government with America providing order and peace all over the world.
I am ex Navy and America is the worlds police. We spend 10 times more than all our adversaries combined. What other country could afford 100 million dollar airplane F-35.

Back to the original topic. Any company that goes to the expense of designing a new class 8 truck platform is going to have target customers and volumes in mind. And one of those targets is cost. The engineering, both the truck itself and methods used to assemble it are integral to the entire package. All the manufacturers have their engineering methods and vendors used, some are better than others depending on the intended outcome and cost
Are you going to support the product for 10, 15, 20 or more years? Is your customer willing to pay for that cost (think airliner). lots of overhead involved in keeping parts on the shelf for a 20 year old truck.
Some people have the opinion that x truck is better than y. That arguement will go on forever.
Do you make money with it should be the only question that has to be answered.

I been either working on or driving a truck for 40 years come July. Drivers are making less now than they did years back considering inflation. I've had my own MC number for 10 years come January.and have done like Hurst did the first couple years grabbing whatever to put money in the bank. Then I noticed I was spending lots more time for what I was putting in the bank. Truck driving, I'd consider a low skill occupation.
The only thing you have to sell is your time so to truly gauge what your making you have to add all the time invested.
I've had this same discussion several times with other drivers here and there and most look really sad in the end.
Believe it or not I can't count all the times I went out on service calls and the driver was paid for downtime and if he had to go to motel. Try and tell a driver now he should add money in with his rate if he's going to be gone more than his 14 hours on duty time ?
They are to stupid to phantom that thought that they should be compensated for their time.
See Hurst hasn't had his own truck for like 18 months IIRC and part of that time it was broke and he had to work for his old employer so I'm inclined to think he hasn't cut the apron strings totally yet in a year or two he may see things differently.

It all makes sense now I was arguing with a newb that assumes he's seen it all but is still getting his feet wet with his first truck. Next thing to come out on here will probably be that he learned everything he knows from his swift driver trainer

Especially when it comes to stuff like quality tools. I will scour craigslist for used snap on stuff or similar before I go buy new Chinese garbage elsewhere

Swish, all the jobs go to Mexico.

History has a way of changing, but the American people demanded the then Democrat candidate, Bill Clinton sign NAFTA, or they weren't going to vote for him.
He agreed to support it and was called a flip flopper by the Labor Unions, Bill won, signed NAFTA and the jobs left.
