I leased for two years when i first started (not prime). I was going broke real fast the first 3 months running otr. I lucked out and got me a dedicated walmart run and it turned around for me and i started to make some money. So, my advice to you is try to get on a good dedicated run right away. Remember, if you end up sitting in Laredo for 3 days, that will put you in the hole which is very hard to climb out of. Remember, otr no, dedicated yes!
Help and a little advice

I'm an o/o not an l/o or l/p. My accountant estimated my net at $129, 000 for 2016. Its torture making six figures I feel exactly like the guy in this picture, a rough life I tell ya lol. I think you guys that have no experience with prime and have never worked for them give them a bad rap and they don't deserve it.BigSky, darthanubis, Chucktshoes and 2 others Thank this.

In order to figure out what a good amount to pay yourself we'd have to know your net. There's so many variables on this that its impossible to say. The good news is you have more control over your fate on this than anything else. Many of us have posted info on our rates and pay on the site if you look around you should be able to get a better idea. Also since you're new to/getting back into this I want to be upfront about the wage #'s I just posted those are from a solo o/o with no payments on equipment, that takes very little time off.
With all due respect to you I would really encourage that you don't go into business with no cash reserve. For a lease op with new equipment $3, 000 and all personal bills paid for 3 months is the bare minimum I would suggest.TequilaSunrise, darthanubis, wolf71 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I can't speak for the L/O, L/P or owner op. But having made $62k in my first full calendar year after completing training and having already grossed 28k so far in 2016, I gots no complaints about the money at Prime. I also know all of my friends on the IC side of the house do better than me. They aren't complaining either.BigSky, darthanubis, wolf71 and 2 others Thank this.

$62, 000 in your first year of driving AWESOME congrats!!!!!! There are plenty of companies out there that would have paid you half that.darthanubis, FullMetalJacket and Chucktshoes Thank this.

Same before my dad went down and I sold my rig. $2500/ wk. after truck payment, and overhead.
Dry box.
Solo.
My massive $500 / wk. truck payment for 24 months.
Dry box.
Solo.
And me thinking I can do a whole better than that with my own numbers, with less hassle.
Well I did take one of the cats on occasion. -
$95K asking. Former Slime truck.
There ya go B. With$5K worth of new rubber. Now its only been driven at 55MPH for its life, so it will run like a top. So we the trucking community, do thank any of you that pay a bazillion dollars for one of these, so that the rest of us can get one very reasonable.
They have 100's, 1000's of them.
Walk in with decent credit, $10K, your driving out for under $90K.
Thanks again.
