Is there a lot of freight thru Landstar in PA, NJ, NY, MA, CT areas?
-
I averaged $2.68 per mile to the truck for all miles with 30% deadhead. Money can be made here at Landstar but you must get really specialized in the freight that you haul.
Hegemeister and nikmirbre Thank this. -

Fireball. What type of open deck trailer do you run with?
-
Don't they pay percentage?
I lease with HT/Prime we get percentage of load. Average $1.10 to $1.40 mile.
But with all leases the first half the money is paying for truck and fuel you take whats left. -
There is lease purchasing a truck from a carrier. And then there is leasing your truck to a carrier. Two completely different things with absolutely zero similarities.Dave_in_AZ, mp4694330 and CJndaTruck Thank this.

Explain your statement that nothing is similar when , leasing a truck from a carrier vs leasing your truck onto a carrier.
-
Easier with a real world example. I have my truck with mercer. The ONLY control mercer has on my truck is that my loads must go through them, and their name and dot number is on the side of my truck. that's it. No other control, i can do with it whatever i please. Their name is no where on the title. At any time i can cancel my contract and lease my truck to another carrier. In a lease purchase it is not your truck, and you can not to another carrier.
Put another way, mercer is my customer for as long as it is a mutually beneficial relationship. In a lease purchase through say prime or Schneider, or any other big carrier, the relationship is much more like a boss and employee.Dave_in_AZ and jldilley Thank this. -
Actually, with Schneider, you CAN take that truck and put it wherever you want. Schneider Finance doesn't care where you run the truck, or with who, as long as you keep making your payments. ...that said, I didn't buy my truck from them, but I know several who have. When we were taken off our dedicated runs and put on Choice, the guys doing leases were told flat out they were welcome to take their trucks elsewhere if they found another dedicated account or another company they preferred to work for.
Dave_in_AZ and Jazzy J Thank this.
