I just want to put this out there.
Nyquil is prohibited by the fmcsa.
Taking DIPHENHYDRAMINE requires a 24hr period of not driving.
It does show up in post crash blood drug tests and if anything were to happen, you would be liable.
On the other hand, melatonin is a natrual sleep aid that might help you, but typically doesn't work more than 2 nights in a row.JReding Thanks this. -
I just log into TTR and read the latest thread about "Which should I choose, Werner or CRE?" That puts me to sleep like a charm.
Rubberduckin, bottomdumpin, BostonTanker and 2 others Thank this. -
Anything with alcohol in it is a no no as stated by Simms.
I preferred a roaring Detroit in high idle or a howling reefer in high side cooling. ZZZZZ.
Storm and rain is big time sleep inducer but screaming tornado sirens or being laid down by a hurricane for a few days sleeping on a wall rather than flat on the bunk is a no no.
Finally you can keep your kids and noisy home, if you can train a wife and then get a full nights sleep with her on the wheel into difficult country then all's well. With that said, I don't recall ever sleeping, I kept track of the shifting, wheels on the pavement and engine the whole time every time. I discovered her limits as well and we would work around them with me on the wheel in those areas in which her problems were a problem.
Night time? Come on, let's go. Sleepy? Not yet, here have coffee. Get going.JReding Thanks this. -
I've been thinking of buying a used coffin(used as in a display model that never had anything in it) and utilizing it as a sound proof sleep box in my place. Nothing like trying to get some sleep and then being jarred awake by kids screaming across the street, varying levels of engine noise from inconsiderate throttle stompers, and of course land-scapers with their various tools.
And I'm guessing some Bluetooth earbuds would be a worthwhile investment. As opposed to falling asleep with regular earbuds connected and dragging your laptop to the floor as you roll around.JReding Thanks this. -
I don't imagine the kids would want to disturb the creature in the coffin.JReding and bentstrider83 Thank this.

Uummm...I use a portable speaker, not earbuds. Loud enough to drown them out, but not so loud as to keep me from sleeping. What I'm listening to is designed to induce sleep, as long as the volume is within reason, I'm good to go.

Benadryl for me but when I start trucking will have to stop taking it.
