Ta/petro alignments?

Look at who they hire...mostly people who can't work at a reputable shop. I would never let them do an alignment. Your better bet is to ask around here for a recommendation. What part of the country are you in?

 

It depends on where you go. I had a three axle alignment done at the the petro in Amarillo and the guy did an exellent job.

 

Well if you go to Denver I would try A&E Tire. They are just south of I-270 and Vasquez, right next door to Peterbilt. Off 52nd, if I remember correctly. It's been a couple years since I used them but I was never disappointed with the work they did.

If your travels take you to SLC, I would recommend Alignment Specialists off the 2100 S Freeway and Redwood Rd. Just had an alignment there last week.

 

Don't go to Petro in Gary IN. The guys don't know what they doing. I'm spend whole day there for no reason and pay fee about 90 bucks . One lazy guy spend his shift just to said his cant do alignment on my truck because my tie rod freeze on one year old truck and previous alignment was done three month ago. When I asking him how is my alignment was before, his said me don't know. I'm just going to check alignment in case because replace steer tires. Also his live a lot of lose parts, I'm lucky because doing pre trip every time

 

Why not just go to a dealer? I have a "go to shop" in Fort Worth called Buck's, but I see places like Rush Peterbuilt offering 129.99 three axle alignments. At least dealership techs will have ASE certification and extra factory training, not to mention they normally have good shop equipment.

 

When it comes to alignments you need to ask about how they do it. We took a truck to Peterbilt in Cheyenne one time for an alignment and didn't think much about it since it was the dealer and the place was fairly new at the time. Was out walking around and happened to walk by the bay door and saw them putting these reflecor boxes hanging with straps off the tires, using a tape measure to check distance between axles. This is a VERY old fashioned way to do it. You need a shop that has laser alignment equipment. They either need an alignment rack or at least the laser boxes that clamp into the lip of the rims on each axle.

 

Even with the lasers they can screw it up at TA.

Do NOT take it to a TA/Petro for the alignment. It's a 50/50 shot the guy will know what he is doing and do it right, but it's your truck and bank account that will suffer if he doesn't.
