Ya this bus was packed! I felt bad for him. riding a bus sucks! He will be there. So, i guess you are in the dorms the first week and a hotel the second? Wish he had a laptop but that will come in time. He not only has a goatee but he had scruff when he left....lol...He wears a blue baseball cap. Can't remember what was on it. It was really tough. I know how your wife feels.

I have short hair (clipped with a #1 every month), A goatee, slightly chubby (weight is 248 atm 205 is my best healthy weight. 6'1
I wear a blue Buffalo Sabres hat, when I wear one at all. 38 years young (but feeling older all the time)
But I am not your husband LOL.
I hope all goes well. I hate to see all the people that don't make it past the first week. After all they go thru leaving home. They say that the background check, DMV check ect. is done before they go, but it is not. They don't do it till at school or orientation (for not new drivers) Due to the cost of the checks.
Usually 1/3 of the students don't make it thru week 1. -
Chrome,
Thanks for the update-that is very informative.
I am supposed to start training a week from Monday with them or at least that is what I have been told so far.
Basically I was offered a positon with either Schneider, Central or PAM and I am just deciding which is best. All three have hubs I believe here in or near St. Louis so I am guessing from a home time perspective I am okay but I am just rying to figure out which company would fit me best. -
I don't know much about PAM.
Schneider is an ok starting company. I looked at them when I was ready to go on the road again, but they were not hiring in my area.
Central is not too bad, for a training company. I have been there over a year, and I am ok. Could be better with just a few small changes, but could be much worse. Our freight base has stayed stable. Food is always in demand.
I think anyone could make it thru a year at Central standing on there head. If they had it in them to drive OTR. That is the big trick. Most that start as OTR drivers do not have the discepline to do it, and will not make it in this industry anywhere. They eather never drive again, or find a local job driving a truck hourly at home.
Good luck. Jon -
Well his DMV printout is fine...hasn't had a ticket in about 8-10 years. His backround is clean, no jail time or anything. He is currently sitting at the bus station in SLC because no one is answering the number they give you to call them for a ride. He isn't too happy right now. I just hope they don't find some stupid reason to send him home after everything we have been through. He turned down a job to do this, so i have my fingers crossed.

The shuttle is not real swift in picking people up. When I first got there I was on a second bus, cause the first was full, so when I got in it was a little later , I called the shuttle and the guy told me it would be like an hour and a half before they come by there again. I thought to myself, I hope thats not how the rest of this adventure is going to be. It wasnt, Central has really been good to me so far. The Central shuttle sucks and so does the Econo Lodge shuttle but what can you do?
-
Well, they aren't even answering the phone. He doesn't know what to do. He is about ready to get back on a bus and head home.
-
Thanks, i am trying to reach that number now, but they have had me on hold since they answered. Never even got to say hi.
-
OK finally got someone with that number Dragon. Thanks! First i called with my daughters cell, the guy just answers and says "hold" and i sat for like 8 minutes with nothing but crappy music. So, i grabbed the house phone and called on it too. One phone to each ear....lol...A lady answered on the house phone and said the van was on it's way to drop someone off and she didn't know why no one was answering. Hmmm. Wonder how they'd like sitting at a bus station in a strange town for over 2 hours. Sorry, just venting, i worry....lol
