Half right. That tax won't go away.
What was challenged in court was the fee for the sticker. The challenge was that an out of state carrier would have a higher cost per mile than an NY state based carrier because of the likely differential in mileage in NY state.
Stickers are now free for out of state carriers, but all are still required to have a NYSHUT sticker and account, ad must file every quarter whether or not there is tax due to the state of NY.
IFTA not good for NY?

It wasnt the actual NYHUT system that was found to be unconstitutional, it was just the charging a fee for the sticker as I understand it. The sticker will be free, you still pay the weight/distance tax on non-tollroad miles you run in the state. May as well just stay out of NY, its all cheap freight up here anyway
rank, rabbiporkchop, Bigdaddy00 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I was only hauling inbound.....good military flatbed stuff too.....now they can find someone else.
-
Maybe. I will see. I mean it was no better than any other rate. I just meant it was cool stuff in general.
I was proud to haul it...giant gears, shafts, etc....it makes me feel like I am helping America in my way!
But I am growing to hate NY so for now they can shove it.
I am sick of accounts/log ins/filings!
At the very least when something comes along to make it easier then ALL states should be on board or they can F off....my feelings for now... -
And because you have to go through them to get New England.....NY just screwed everyone in NE from my services.... for now... too....
-
All true.
Certainly more fun to just go truckin than to waste half a day on paperwork. -
I think if you stay on the Thruway system you technically don't owe NYS any money right? Theoretically you could stay on I-90 Thruway property the whole way across from OH to MA.
-
No, but they do issue Oregon IFTA stickers for trucks domiciled in OR.
