At least you don't have to have the NY HUT stickers (plates) on our trailers anymore. That use to be required, and you had to pay for it,too.

If you go into NYC area, there's a different tax that applies to anybody delivering there called the commercial motor vehicle tax. A separate yearly fee most don't know about, but only enforced if you come upon NYC truck enforcement or NY DOT motor carrier safety.

I was going to say well you have to get on/off somewhere....but now I see what you are saying...I can use the thruway and I will only be saying no to NY.
I can pass the NY tolls on in my quote.
So that settles it for me. NE is OK...NY is no more. -
I got pinched getting on I90 at exit 46 (390)
-
Well one more reason they can screw off. I have hauled very much needed sheet steel in to the subway repair yard in the Bronx. It was a hot load and they could not find anyone to run it. And honestly my truck is PERFECT for it.....but no more.

I think you are making business decisions based on emotion. That's a bad thing to do, and will only effect your bottom line. I'm guilty of that myself from time to time too.
Living where you do I would just get set up with NY though, I'm not myself, but if it's as simple as KY is I wouldn't let it bother me. -
Oh it is definitely emotion! I am sick sick of accounts/passwords/taxes!
I worked VERY hard to get set up and thought I was sailing legit!
NY was 1/10 of my freight (other than passing through on toll roads which as I understand it do not require HUT).
So now they lose all the high dollar specialty freight coming in from me (many times for their infrastructure) as a well as any money spent from me when jumping off at exits for this or that.
I am literally a one man show...no wife helping at home (she works full time)... and it is already enough just booking/mapping/logging loads, submitting signed BOL's, tracking accounts receivable, scheduling/performing maintenance, filing IFTA quarterly etc....
As of right now I feel they need to change not me! -
How did you not know about NYHUT? Seriously. It's not some big secret. Neither is KYU. The reason they went to back to the stupid stickers is because of carriers like you. Part of being in business and having your own authority is knowing and abiding by the regulations of the states you service. You know about NJ corporate tax right? That makes NYHUT look cheap.
Blackshack46, Bean Jr., Ruthless and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sole proprietors are the only ones exempt from that OTHER NJ tax I think
-
Yep, otherwise it's impound time.
-
No possible way to know it all before ever rolling your rig IMO.
No I do not know about NJ corp tax? Does this pertain to us?
