Some Driveshaft porn:
Bangor Equipment did the pump/compressor install and everything came out really nice. Had to relocate the air tanks for the pump driveshaft and I was able to score a brand new air tank that just came off a truck that the dealer provided. I also had them install two switches on the dash just like the company trucks. I had two blanks where the locking diffs would be, so there was room and it turned out looking like factory original. Total cost was just under $7,000 for all the work I had done. Very pricey (almost as much as a hydrapak) but I'm happy with the end result.

P.S. Is a tractor pump absolutely required? I think I've used the tractor pump 2 or 3 times in the past year. Would be easy to just avoid those customers as an O/O and not have to pay for the pump or any cleanings.Last edited: Apr 30, 2016

Ya, pump/compressor/and HIT are required but I also haven't used my pump more than 3 or 4 times in two years. Same thing with HIT, usually the temp is high enough to not require it, or we just steam it/put in the heated garage overnight.

Nice thread... looking forward to following your progress. I've yet to find an SBL I/C who wasn't pretty happy running the system. I am considering making the same move to I/C, so definitely interested in you impressions.

I am giving this some serious thought again. Tired of these junky trucks Superior keeps buying. Mine is broke down with a bad camshaft and injectors. How does a 2014 truck with only 195k miles already need new injectors and a camshaft???

I haven't seen anyone mention health insurance. What are you doing about that? I have looked at family plans and they would run me about $1200-1300 per month. That would take a huge chunk out of my monthly income as an IC.
I heard Superior started offering IC's some kind of health insurance. I never asked about it being a company driver so I don't know who it is through or how much it would cost.
Honestly the health insurance is my biggest hurdle in becoming an IC. If I can find some decent and affordable insurance it may be game on. -
Yeah, that's my one and only issue with the company is the trucks. Small sleepers, low horsepower, and too little storage. I think the weight of the loads is killing these underpowered engines. Other tanking companies are running Petes with bigger sleepers, but I don't know if they pay less. I guess I'll have to buy my own. And wow, that's a lot of money for health insurance. I thought family plans usually ran $400 or $500. Maybe get a lower cost through your wife's job?

My wife does not work so that option is out. I am not a vet and even if I was that VA healthcare sounds like it totally sucks so I wouldn't want that anyway.
Basically our government has taken away any incentive to try and improve your quality of life. -

Were you on I-77 today? A giant shiny lemon, looked like it just came out of the truck wash.
