For this argument that's irrelevant. If you're in Cali you won't get close to 70. Didn't run a radio for almost a year and a half and do just fine.

Yeah I never had any problems in Cali. Lots of truck stops and open roads. Plus the beautiful scenery and palm trees. Los Angeles is a dream to navigate compared to Chicago or NYC. If I ever get back in the saddle my dream run would be from Florida to Cali. My two favorite states. Southern Texas is nice too.

I grew up in Southern California, and I loved it. After living out of the state, and running in the Midwest, I went for a visit. I didn't realize what a miserable place it is to run a truck. Pre-pass always showing red, scales every 50 miles, and the traffic!
I don't understand how that freak, moonbeam, got reelected after all these years.fargonaz and RustyChops41 Thank this. -
Pre- pass can be hot and miss just depends. For instance Cordelia scales coming in and out of the bay on 80 are training scales so that's generally a red light. Going south it's usually a green at castaic or wheeler ridge. Dunsmuir is always hit and miss. Went 3 months of running I-5 straight and didn't have to run through it once. Went through the other day and got a red. Los Angeles is simple compared to Dallas or Chicago or the bay. I prefer it over many places. The only Down side to coming into LA from the east is dealing with Banning.
rachi, bottomdumpin and RustyChops41 Thank this. -
What sucks the most about eastbound Banning is that if you have a delivery in L.A you probably staged in Coachella or someplace like that. But since you don't know if you will get the red or green you can't plan very well. I've been in line for 30 minutes at that scale before. So like I always say when delivering in L.A, I can either be early or late, depends on the stupid scale.

Sure, you still have to have someone going the other direction tell you about it. I keep my radio on and yet I run into traffic jams all the time that are old, yet mile after mile before not one driver said a word. The days of the C.B are just about over. I keep mine, but I have to admit, it only has limited uses.

I wouldn't say every scale.....

I used to love California but I'm getting sick of it. The roads aren't the best, the truckstops tend to fill up fast and while L.A is easy to navigate, it takes forever to get through it. I spend a lot of time there.
But to me the biggest irritation is the speed limit. It cases an accordion effect because everyone is speeding by some degree or another and trucks just seem to play leapfrog all day.
I drive at night, my truck is governed at 65 and I bet I make less than 15 passes a shift on average. In Cali, it has to be 30 or 40. It's really my fault though, if I drive 55 it wouldn't happen but I just don't want to, lol.
The other issue, at least for tankers, is that everyplace we pick up or deliver is tight and cramped. I guess it cost a lot of money to have big places or something but man, California is packed like sardines.bottomdumpin Thanks this. -
yeah Banning is a real crap shoot. If I had to wait in line that long I would honestly just bail. so many people run that scale, I don't know if they would chase you or not.
