Golf pro, Like a lot of drivers I figured if I start hauling dangerous stuff I'll make some big bucks.
In the last 17 months I've done propane, ethanol, alcohol, motor oil, herbicides, caustic soda,
phosphoric acid . I've really been disappointed , in the money. Some of these things will blow you half way to the moon if you have an accident. I know some that have had serious accidents with concentrated bleach and other products. These jobs should pay 100k at least. If you really want the $$$ and good work, don't mind staying out, line-haul for LTL is where it is at. Think UPS,OD,
Estes,YRC, Fed ex,ABF. Some of these guys have the easiest jobs and get paid the most besides. They must be living right. Anyway that's my next goal LTL baby that's where it is.
Call me a disillusioned, TX endorsed, X tanker yanker. Don't get me wrong,I really liked the work,
I especially liked propane but not for $200.00/day . Does your wife have any interest in driving ?
There are some husband and wife teams pulling in a cool 200k/yr at OD and other LTL operations. I'd consider going team with
someone and split 200k,I'd have to get home Sunday though. God comes before $$$ to me.

@GolfPro , I've played there 4 or 5 times previously and always enjoyed it. Let me speak to my copartner in crime to see if he is agreeable to a road trip.
    Get back to U tmrw

My wife would drive with me except we have a 9- and a 7-year-old...and we're both 54.

My original goal was to get a couple of years in and then try for a local job. I've heard LTL is a great gig. If I return to trucking I'll hopefully make the right moves the next time.

Just saw this thread. Didn't read much of it. CTL -- locally know as Clown Truck Lines.

Golf Pro , you should try MC Tank. They have a Terminal in Savannah. They have a new terminal manager that would probably hire you.

Heard you were working there now (if you are who I think you are). Still having ill effects from my fall in February, doctor not ruling out surgery, as I've been progressively getting worse. Thanks for the heads up.

Well, I spent some time re-reading this whole thread. I remembered some things I had forgotten, and I'm pleased I wrote everything exactly as it happened to the best of my memory with no intentional embellishments positive or negative. I haven't been on this forum in a while, so earlier tonight I thought I'd take a look and see what's up.

I'm still working at the golf course in Savannah, but at very low wages. The teaching opportunities I were told would happen didn't (of course).

Eight months after I fell out of the cab, I finally got the MRI done and it isn't good, and as I said a couple of posts above, it's progressively getting worse. It's called tendinosis, and I got this from a website: " Tendinosis is an accumulation over time of microscopic tendon injuries that don't heal properly. Although inflammation can be involved in the initial stages of the injury, it is the inability of the tendon to heal that perpetuates the pain and disability." Doctor gave me three options: do nothing and probably not get better; get shots; get surgery.

I am leaning towards surgery as I don't want to live like this for the rest of my life - I can no longer run or play golf, and certainly couldn't climb to the top of a tank. I'm actually regaining my interest in a trucking career, but I'm not sure if my many months away is rendering me unemployable or would force me to go through a company training program where I'd have to "repay" them.

I want to again thank most everyone here who has weighed in, and recognize you've been most supportive. I made a really stupid decision that cost me my career with CTL, but by this time I would have long been unable to physically handle the demands of the job, anyway. Everyone here has my deepest admiration and gratitude.

    ncdriver1 and G13Tomcat Thank this.
