I am working on a trip plan that requires me to use US 19 through WV. CoPilot Truck GPS is indicating that the New River Gorge Bridge is restricted to no more than 72,000 lbs. I have never been on the route, but I do not see it as restricted in the motor carrier atlas. A Google search has thus far failed to provide me with a confirmation of what CoPilot is telling me.

    Is this bridge restricted?

Thanks for your reply. I was just hoping that some of the members here perhaps travel the route and could offer some insight.

Theres no posted signs of a weight limit under 80,000 when you are on the road. I believe it, and all the bridges on 19 do say that trucks need to stay 200 feet apart, and its pretty common in general in other parts of WV on two lane roads for signs to read no more than 1 truck on a bridge at a time.
    You'll be fine.

For what its worth, going north my old old garmin nuvi truck GPS will route me on 19, coming south it doesn't want me on 19 until after I pass Mt Nebo or whatever the town is with the huge truck stop. Never had any issues, never seen any posted signs keeping trucks off of it.

I think this may be why co-pilot is coming up with the weight:

WV ARTICLE 17. SIZE, WEIGHT AND LOAD.

§17C-17-9a. Gross weight of vehicles and loads.

    (3) A single unit truck having one steering axle and four axles in quadem arrangement shall be limited to a maximum gross weight of seventy-three thousand pounds with a tolerance of ten percent.

    (4) A tractor-semitrailer combination with five axles, a tractor-semitrailer combination with six or more axles, a single unit truck having one steering axle and two axles in tandem in combination with a trailer with two axlesand a single unit truck having one steering axle and three axles in tridem in combination with a trailer with two axles, shall be limited to a maximum gross weight of eighty thousand pounds with a tolerance of ten percent.

The only notice WV has currently posted is this:

    US Route Work Zones
    US 19
    New River Gorge Bridge
    03/03/2016
    10/13/2016
    Construction Project
Notes: Bridge Repair..North and south bound slow lane closures...14'-6" Width restriction

FWIW, I've run 19 and been across it several times and have never seen any restrictions posted, southbound or northbound. Nothing wrong with double checking it either.

where are you coming from and going to? 19 up through Beckley, Oak Hill and Fayetteville is a regular truck route. Ive been going up through there for years with 80,000 lb loads all the way from 77 to 79. Its 4 lane all the way up through there. Cant get on old 19 I dont think. IM thinking that bridge is on old 19. Theres no weight restrictions posted on new 19.

Oak Hill is where Hank Williams died, or at least where he was pronounced dead.

have you tried updating the maps and app? Maybe it's changed with the update.

I got an alert couple of days ago saying maps update. But i haven't updated it yet. My main gps unit is in the truck which is in the shop for a service. and i haven't felt like doing it on my phone as it don't get used much to worry about it.

I would use US 19 to get from I-77 to I-79. The trip is from near Kingsport, TN to near Toronto, ON.

The only thing I could scratch up on Google was this document, which references some weight restrictions on US 19. I am not sure this is a current document though. As to the NRG Bridge, after looking at the street view on Google Maps, it appears to be around mile post 19 or so if I'm not mistaken.

(It came from this link: http://www.transportation.wv.gov/highways/maintenance/hauling_permits/Documents/WEIGHT AND CLEARANCE RESTRICTIONS 2014.pdf)
