Absolutely!!! Been looking at that scheme on google pics. Always loved a W900 as well as the 359's. Guess the 1975 359 and the 1978 W900 Pop had made me appreciate them, enjoyed driving both of them back in the late 80's, even though the 359 had Armstrong steering.

In the late 80's I drove a black Freightshaker with a cranked up KT450, cats were no problem. But then again.... Weed hopper retired after years of driving a CO International with a 6-71 Detroit, he put his coworkers to shame with the same trucks powered by 290's...... Sometimes it's the driver too, not just the engine.

    x1Heavy and rocknroll81 Thank this.

    Aww.

Sometimes it's the driver and not the vehicle. Absolutely. Had me a unlimited 500 detriot on a rockwell 9 for a while. 130 was possible depending on where the fuel pump cut off at usually 115 but if you can cause it to cut off while gaining momentum past 120, you stood a good chance to keep it there.

With that said, I pit a 350 cat against a 24% grade once, three mile pull.

All the days to that pull and all the days after that pull I have never seen the Pyrometer that hot In fact I was fearing for the metal itself. All the other dashboard indicators was well into the orange side towards the red line in many areas by the time I cleared the summit.

For those of you unsure of 24%, consider this.

You sit in your drivers seat of a 20 foot long tractor, give or take a few feet. Then you have the 48 footer behind you. To put this into perspective if I remember right, your rear doors of that trailer is approximately 60 feet below your height.

    Does that make sense?

Another time my trainer let er go on Townhill, a 4 mile eastbound romp on that 5% in nuetral until we reached the earth's gravity at approx 123 or so. Adding fuel and power to it at that point created a touch of negative gravity, but just a touch. Essentially the rig will rise to the limits of the air bags and no further.

    Zeviander and rank Thank this.
