This is the way I'd do it no question. 50 is a decent ride west of Clarksburg. Ran it plenty over the last several years. Keep in mind there aren't any truck services on 50 so you'll probably want to hit the Pilot south of Morgantown for a quick break before you tackle it.

I have so many 'never agains' in PA. Roads so steep I'm pulling them in 3rd or 4th gear. The whole time wondering why the hell it's an STAA and cussing up a storm.

I tried 30 all the way to avoid the pike once. West bound. I thought I was gonna break my truck. lol. Only like 30K in the box too. The guys that left the shipper after me, were at the T/A in Donegal when I got their. We all had a BIG laugh on me at that one.

Don't do it! I ran it once, at night, from MD to OH because I wanted to avoid paying tolls out of pocket in the time before ez pass and all of that stuff. Needless to say what a mistake! Narrow, tight, twisting, turning, steep, etc. In other words a huge PITA!!! Thank God for paper logs back then or I would have ran out of hours.

I did once, 42,000 actually. Was not a fun trip. Narrow, winding and hilly.

There was a two lane that run right along the side the turnpike. I cant remember the route number but it was there at the Flying J just before you get to the cashbox, I think it was 31. I ran that east once to avoid the turnpike. It dumped out on 30 in Breezewood. Got about halfway across it and it started snowing. Man that was a mess.

    It's not bad.

Just bring crampons, pitons, a climbing rope, and a pencil and paper.

The pencil and paper is so you can leave a note for your loved ones after they find you.

It's not a fun trip, and that's all I have to say about that.

Keep in mind too, your not the only person on that narrow stretch of road and "passing" isn't an option most of the time, and some folks like to sightsee on the back roads.
