Im in Akron too, but don't have any experience yet with class A, just class B from propane company. Watching this thread. Is it impossible to get in without experience?

You might get really lucky if they really need & like you. As some companies will also hire from the dock workers.
Normally you will need a year of class A, and no more than 2 to 3 points on MVR.
No DUI or even a "open container" offense.
    Apply at all of them.
Lower paying LTL companies like FedX Ground, Road Runner, RMX would be more likely to hire you first though.
Problem is, it's expensive & time consuming to train people into local P&D and route work.
Learning how to get around on all of the different route areas, and how to get in & out of each individual customer, as their all different.
You have to be fast & safe, neat appearance, good personality.
A very good work ethic, never call off, and work all the O.T. to be good at it.
But you get to work great hours & no weekends.
    Now...
Line Haul is different. Easier , and pays more.
But it's evening or night shift.

Some of those companies you listed also have 401K listed along with pension.
Just curious as to what the 401K match is at all of them ?
One guy private messaged me 21% company match is average. Didn't want to say which company.

They may offer 401k , but they do not match for Union enployees to the best of my knowledge.

I applied to work the road once at USF Holland on Memphis Ave in Brooklyn, Ohio.
Old Dominion in Valley View across the street from my companies drop yard I guess is okay a couple of old school GFS transit drivers went over there and I guess they like it although they said it was getting a little slow a month or so ago, but who knows. USF Holland probably would be your best bet. YRC in Copley, Ohio always has the now hiring sing out too.

Superior Beverage of Glenwillow is probably also hiring if you want to do night shuttle for them pays about $50K a year with 401K probably not good enough, but I was just throwing it out there.

Talon Logistics in Bedford Heights, that's all city for the most part pay I think is like 18-19 bucks an hour problem is you might have to work some nights and maybe go to Columbus to make a delivery.

    iStout and crb Thank this.

I've heard of Dayton hiring someone in your exact position, having them put in some time in a straight truck, then doing the full tractor-trailer training deal. But we have very few straight trucks, so openings are rare. You should apply though, because your hazmat experience is an asset. Then periodically ask about openings to keep your name fresh. I'd also look into Pitt-Ohio. They have a ton of straight trucks.

The short-lists above look good; Dayton Freight has a pretty good reputation as well.
Estes is out of Mansfield Ohio, and pays really well but is hard to get into. I tried a couple years back to no avail. I know a guy who works there, pay is good; benefits, and matching 401K.
Good luck in your venture~ Be safe~!
