Haven't posted in a bit due to the fact that flatbed is a lot of work! I finished orientation last week, and could have got my truck last Thursday, but I opted to go out for a week with a trainer to learn more on load securement. I didn't think 3 days of class was adequate.
I'm glad I made the choice to go with a trainer. Plus, all they had left the day I would've got my truck was International's.. My trainer is lease op as well. He was showing me pay stubs from when he was a solo lease driver and he was bringing home anywhere from $1200-$1600 after his payments and fuel deductions. Of course now, being as he's a trainer he is getting like 5000 mile weeks bringing home $3000 after deductions.
The fixed cost is about $850 a week, truck note is around $600 and insurance is about $150 and equipment rental is $100. I'm not sure what he pays for fuel, but I'm sure it's more than the average lease operator, due to the fact that his truck has no governor.. Well, it's set at 85. So pretty much wide open for the most part.
Well, that's all for now. I'll post again when I get back to the terminal and put the ink on the contract!

" now pay for maintenance, and uncle sams ridiculous tax rates and is actually less than the average good (non mega fleet) company driver take home. Plus the company driver gets a matching 401k and decent health insurance.

Because he runs his truck like a bat outta hell.. He does ten over the speed limit everywhere we go. Plus he is runnin more miles in a week then I will be solo. I figure he probably spends $1500 a week or so on fuel. I know last time he filled up it cost about $340. And that was from about 1/8th of a tank. So I'm banking on probably spending $700- $900 a week on fuel running solo.
I ran 64mph all the time at my last company and was at the top of the fuel boards. But, granted that was flatbed freight and it was mostly light loads. Under 20,000 almost always. Combined with a 10 speed manual and progressive shifting I was getting almost 9mpg. -
How much experience does he have? I bet if you asked him he couldn't even tell you his fuEl consumption

When I say after deductions. I'm talking truck payment, fuel, maintenance fund and escrow. The later of the two are milage based. And it's up to you what you put in each. It could be 5cpm or 25cpm it's up to you. And as far as Taxes goes, I plan on using ATBS for my tax purposes. And as far as 401k goes. I have a Roth IRA set up with TD Ameritrade. And health insurance, we'll it's not going to be as cheap as a company policy, but yet again I'm single..

And little over two years. And you're right, I just asked him and he said he doesn't really keep track just tries to get 5,000 miles a week. So he can bring home $3000.

Most of the time the maintainence is "free". You already paid for it in the maintainence reduction.

You are either missing the point, or ignoring it. Atbs will gladly do your books and file your taxes for you, but you have to pay them and pay the taxes. Using the numbers you posted, the true after tax, after roth ira, and after health insurance and other benefits, is less than a company driver. Sure it might be a bit more than the average cr england and Swift guy, but those are not the base line to compare to. I live in cheap labor florida for gods sake, and could get a job at over a dozen companies in my area making 55k to 65k plus a year and be home daily! Those are the driver wages i use as a base line, not the 33 cpm mega box carriers.Eeyore05 Thanks this.
