Kw has always been pretty bad to me, they generate lot's of static.
It take lot's of work to build decent set up with Kw, i remember years ago i had a FLD120 that truck was awesome radio wise!
Also back then trucks were made of metal now it's all plastic fiber glass and all kind of composite materials + tons of electronics that doesn't help.

Freightliner Cascadia.
The radio was never the problem, never turning the inverter on till I actually needed was the issue. And what are the odds I'm using the inverter and radio at the same time? Slim to nil that's when. Well, I was using it to keep the phone charged, because the cigarette lighter as a charger was introducing noise as well. Well, is easier to unplug from the lighter while driving than stop to turn off the inverter.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Oh ok. I thought you were dealing with that much noise as the norm!
-
I was. This has been the norm, until my post in this thread, turning off the inverter. Thanks to you for starting this thread I've reduced a big noise maker. So like the article said, there's noise and then there is NOISE. The inverter noise should have never been in there. I expect to find now, people will some better at distance.Evvy Thomas Thanks this.

Well color me confused, lol. But either way, I'm glad you got that figured out.
I'm currently trying to upload a short video I just made, showing my noise levels. I'm not sure if the site will reject it. If so, I'll youtube it and post a link here.darthanubis Thanks this. -
My phone's mic enhances the noise a bit but this is the jist of it. Some days are more quiet. I am moving the ground strap to a point under the mirror mount where it will be touching bare metal on the door and then I'm bonding the door to the cab so that should help even more.

Top is before inverter is turned off.
Both pictures squelch and gain are wide open.
Where is your needle with squelch and gain wide open? -
I don't use squelch, it's off in the vid. At about 0:33 I turn the rf gain to max and the meter doesn't get to 1. It could be that the meter doesn't respond to white noise? It jumps to 9 on strong signals though so I'm not sure.
Again, my phone enhances the noise a bit. It's not quite as loud as it sounds in the video.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
You should make another video when you hear a guy with a stock radio 30 miles away and he sounds loud and clear and he's not moving your needle.

Now that's what i want for my radio!!!rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
