When it involves skip conditions stations 3000 miles away can easily hit you harder than someone two blocks away so that's not a good indicator of how sensitive your receiver is

I know, I was just commenting on the fact that skip is rolling, but thanks.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
I heard a few guys down in Florida earlier this morning on the way to work
wolverine11 Thanks this. -
And you are up in Pa, did they say where they were from or just said sandpile? Right now getting alot of Texas and Cali stations. I hope it keeps rolling North to South because I will be up in Baltimore on Tuesday and like to make contacts with all my local contacts down around Tampa.

After listening to the first video through my trucks stereo I see now how loud it sounds in the recording. Definitely the over-sensitive mic on my phone and the fact that holding it close to the radio puts the mic about 8 inches from the external speaker.
I guess the best way to describe it is to say that sitting with the truck off and the volume at 75% the rf noise just becomes audible at 12:00. Rolling down the road I need it about 2:30 to hear it clear and at full rf gain its still quiet enough that I could comfortably have a normal conversation with someone in the passenger seat. And the noise is different too. More subdued if that makes sense, not that brain scrambling irritating crackling.
Either way, I'm not done with the antenna system so I'm not even asking for dx checks or running it at full power until I'm satisfied that I have the antenna setup clean.rabbiporkchop, darthanubis and wolverine11 Thank this. -
Rolling 90 through NY skip started rolling in around 1230. Heard Virginia, Georgia and Arkansas like they were next to me. Heard Kansas a few hours later in eastern Ohio.
wolverine11 and darthanubis Thank this. -
I just kept hearing sand pile
wolverine11 Thanks this. -
Meanwhile in NC, the northeast corner was booming. Tried to no avail to reach out.

Heard nothing here in Oregon. In Louisiana heard these guys in the Carolinas clear as day...$"5 dolla radio" etc.

Right on Evvy I hate that crackling static worse than fingernails on a chalk board, thats what I meant when I said its pleasing to the ear. Did you have the NB/ANL on? Your making me want to pull my Galaxy 48T out of storage, its old school two 2290 transistors in final amp section no mosfets, I think some of the little fans in the heat sink stopped working because last time I used it the radio got pretty hot havnt used it since, that was five years ago.
Evvy Thomas Thanks this.
