Oh I will! I plan on runnin 60-62mph. Granted I'll be in the right lane all the time, but seeing as how that fuel is coming out of my pocket I'm going to do everything I can to make sure I can stretch it as far as possible. One good thing I like is that we get a 10 cent a gallon discount at Pilot and Flying J with our EFS card. So, I've already started planing out trips on my own to find the cheapest fuel. If it's 40 cents higher in let's say New York, than it is in Vermont, I know not to fill up in NY, just get enough to get to another state where it's cheaper. Granted, right now it's all on paper and it looks good. But, everything looks good on paper.... all in all over the past week, I can say I've learned about how to do load securement, and how not to be as a lease operator. I'm taking the good with the bad and I'm going to apply it to my situation and hopefully I'll come up with a solution that works for me.

They are skimming off the top on fuel savings. 10 cpg is less than half the discount I'm getting with my carrier, who has a lot less trucks, therefore less buying power.

As for what state to buy fuel, that is going to depends on if they charge back ifta costs to you. If they don't, but at the cheapest pump price, if they do you need to buy at the cheapest after tax price. Every state has a different per gallon tax rate, Google the tax rates, then deduct that from the price you pay after your discount. Basically the point is you will pay the tax any way when you file and pay ifta. They go by fuel burnt in each jurisdiction using an average mpg for the quarter. So depending on what states you run and local fuel prices, sometimes it's better to pay more for fuel today to save on the tax owed.

So the "so-called" trainer doesn't track his fuel? Lol quite the business model there. Good luck driver.

Just my .02c but I think there are some drivers who run team under the "trainer" umbrella. Not so much for the training but more for the money in their pocket.

Hate to say it, but I think this thread will end with a: "Western Express" is a horrible company, etc, etc, etc.
Hope it doesn't, but it seems the writing is on the wall.

I could tell it was going to happen the moment I gothink on the truck... I'm kinda wishing I would have just got a truck and started running miles right away.

Well yall, I finally made it off the trainer's truck and passed my road test. Upon completion I didn't find any trucks that I was interested in leasing directly from Western. Mainly because, all they had for lease was automatic transmissions. So, I decided to go with an outside lease company that partners with WSX. They also partner with other carriers so, say I don'the like it at WSX, I have the option of leasing on to another company. Quality companies...
Correct me if i'm wrong but, i'm pretty sure they might be owned by Celadon. Anyway. They were fine with it and in all of 25 mins they sent of a LOI to Quality for my approval. I spoke with them earlier and I'm all set on there end and my account is open. Just waiting on a bus ticket and heading to Indy to pick out a truck.
Now, the rates are different with O/O vs lease purchase, It's percentage. I'll be pulling 70% of the load + fsc. Just wanting to know if 70% of the load is good or bad. I like the idea of pulling a percentage instead of having to chase miles. But, I realize I'll be probably be chasing freight now lol.
