Would you guys recommend May or Western Express to start off 3-6 months with? Thing about May is they use 13-speeds and I learned on a 10. Western have more autos I think than May.

    That's not a rollover, that's a creative 30 minute break.

I think with all the threads about how terrible western express is, you might want to go with may. I'm sure may isn't perfect but you could have a better experience with them.

And a 13 speed isn't hard. When I first drove one, I had it down in the first day. That's not a huge accomplishment, but it felt good after being intimidated by the 13. There was a recent thread about 13 and 18 speeds. If you go with may, just tell your trainer you haven't driven a 13 yet. If he's a good trainer he'll work with you on it.

    Here's that thread.

What about going across country to a company like Abilene Motor Express? Heard they are pretty good.

You could always try Taylor shellfish they only run intrastate and start at 16 an hour but it's a good way to get experience for a better job down the road.

Western Express a carrier of last resort: You have a bad criminal record, a bad driving record, or wrecked a few trucks you call them. They have a bad record with the DOT.

May trucking has a pretty good record with the DOT. However they are known to be fussy as hell micromanagers with typical or less then typical mega company pay and benefits. If you are going to go mega you might have better options.

Looking at companies like Taylor shellfish are a good idea. If you could get your start a company that does not have the mega mentality, that would be ideal. However, Taylor Shellfish in Shelton, like most of the fish processors have a bad to terrible record with the DOT. Truck maintenance always seems a issue with these companies and trucking safety always take a back seat to cheep freight.

I'm looking to start with Intertsate and live in So king county. I came out of school, no experience but they will take me on. I guess some schools they accept. They didn't mention western trucking as being one of them but maybe they'll take you? They're doing a $7500 bonus with hazmat for their 11 western reefer fleet. might start up a dedicated account as well (less bonus) that I might take. I figure they'll be a starter company.

Does anyone know about Stevens or United Road? I'm seeing a lot of Knight, Swift, Gordon, A&M, Celadon, and a few other companies going on Worksource. I've been trying to get a hold of Interstate, which apparently, even though they told me my school hadn't been approved, took in a student who came through the same school I did.

I'm trying to avoid Western Express and the others I haven't gotten a response out of yet. I don't know what to do. I really want to drive, but the only ones I see obviously hiring students is Swift and one other, I can't remember the name. I really don't want only a week of training, so I won't go to Swift for obvious reasons. Interstate, and don't quote me, because it has been over a month since I talked to them, said they'd hire me if my school was approved. I just found out that another student through the same school got hired on to them. I'm even trying to get a regular job, but have had no success.
