The height of the clearance can also change before the sign does if it ever does. A 13'6" clearance can become 13'4" really quick. Grind off 2 inches of the top and lay down 4 inches of new asphalt. BAM you now have a 13'4" bridge. This can also happen with snow buildup on the road in the winter.
My first OD load.

So road closed due to emergency, do you shut down and call to amend the permit to get a new routing?
I'll add a height stick to the wish list.
New York already ran into a 12'8" bridge, with a sign on the bridge and one before it stating 12'8" clearance. Then one more sign ahead of those two with "actual bridge height 13"8". Confusing. -
Road closed, if it's normal business hours you should call the state permit department and tell them what's going on and have them give you a new route.
If it's after hours, call the highway patrol.
Whichever one you talk to, make sure to write down the day, time, and persons name and badge number (if applicable) so that you are covered incase something happens off route.back street slider, Orangees, passingthru69 and 2 others Thank this. -
@catalinaflyer, Have you ever look at a scan gauge? Just wondering what the differences were between the set-up you use verses a scan gauge. I just downloaded the Torque app onto my tablet and am really impressed with the amount of information the app can show. Now I have to get the ODB2 adapter so I can actually play with the app but I think I'm going to like seeing all of that in real-time.catalinaflyer Thanks this.

I have friends that have used and still use the scan gauge. Personally I went the low-budget route with torque and adapter because of the ability to customize the gauges and see what I want in real time. Scan gauge has this ability as well but its a data stream your reading (numbers) where the torque app can be any number of gauges plus there are some real wizards on the forums who write all manner of custom gauges especially for diesel trucks and tuner cars (I have both).
Bottom line, for the price the torque app with adapter was hands down the winner when I was looking. I've seen many people give up the scan gauge for the torque app but not the other way around.88 Alpha Thanks this. -
I haven't seen the scan gauge, only read about it, but it sounded like they do the same thing. The reason for me asking you about it was for the reason you mentioned in this quote. If they do the same thing, for the price of an inexpensive ODB2 adapter, it would be very difficult to beat the torque app.
It also sounds like I gotta go lurking on that forum, if for no other reason than to read about the custom gauges.
Thanks again for talking about your set-up. -
@catalinaflyer I never took the time for a thank you. I read it, and appreciated your time and advice. Just didn't get to saying thanks.
And @Oscar the KW, ok, I'll remember that for next time. I would sooner learn most of these lessons now, rather than later. -
No worries, hopefully what I offered will help you out in the long run.
