That picture was taken at Manitowoc, Wi at the Manitowoc plant there. I was there to pick up an 86k lb spool,.. among many other trucks that were taking parts and pieces for a very large crane to be set up last summer down in Atlanta for their new stadium.

Is flatbed work much different than reefer or dry van.

Must be the 2nd or 4th largest, the one we had for the last 18 months was the 3rd largest track crane in ths world
-
The one I helped to take down was so large it needed a truck of wheels behind it just to help carry the counter weights. I have no idea where it ranks in terms of size,.. but it was one of the largest I have ever seen.
Hurststreet beater Thanks this. -

I know I'll need training. I'm just weighing pros and cons of switching to a flatbed company for a few months. I'm still 9-10 months out from a truck purchase, and I like the idea of Landstar, because I can do step, van, flat, etc, all before I set my mind to any specific trailer to buy my own. Right now I'm pulling reefer, and it pretty much sucks. Boring as all get out, other than oddball appointment times, and trying to figure out the best way to pay lumpers. (legalized highway robbery, imo)

I've heard that sound a couple of times. You'd be surprised how far they will sail.Chewy352 Thanks this.

Is the 5th wheel pin on a flatbed or drop deck generally located further forward than on a dry van? Seems like there is a lot of clearance between the sleeper and the front of the trailer in these pics?
-
Depends on how it is ordered. Normally it is a shallower king pin. We have a 53 quad that I swear the king pin is only about 10". The trailer does not cover the entire 5th wheel plate. Two reasons for this, one is front overhang and the other is to extend the bridge length for more permittable weight.tommymonza Thanks this.
