If that's the case, then I can see the OP or anyone else making a mistake like that, especially if it's his first time in Louisiana.
However, at this point there is little he can do about it other than man up and accept it, and hopefully learn from it as any of us would have to do.Dan.S and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this. -
Not really. The same sign with the flashing lights has in big bright letters telling you what the flashing lights mean. It's our job to look for, read, and follow signs.magoo68 Thanks this.
-
I've never been down that way, so I'll take your word for the extent of the signage.
But I do know that truckers are creatures of habit, and one oddball is easy for the best of us to miss.Dan.S Thanks this. -
Agree. We get used to doing something one way and its hard to break that habit. But its still our job to pay attention, and while we all screw up on occasion, we gotta own our mistakes and take responsibility for them. -
Mack E-6 I know your a forum leader or whatever, But I call Bull on 21 docks in 1 day on a 320 mile run...
I ran P&D for 10 years in Chicago.. ..
If you tied in 320 miles you got a minimum of 6-8 hours Just in drive times.PLUS the ins n outs @ customers...Each Dock you bump is a minimum of 10-15 minutes(some take 30 minutes depending on if the dock is occupied), (even at 1 piece/pallet)... You bumped 21 businesses and ran 320 miles? If ya did, You worked 14-16 hours minimum. -
No sir. 11 hours.

Chicago bites big wind from what I've read here. I go to a busy town, but it ain't quite to that extent.
One thing I don't do is stand still for very long. I believe in getting in and out of places ASAP, 5 minutes at the most. Anyone who takes as long as you describe to do things here usually doesn't last a month, let alone 10 years.
If you don't mind my asking, who did you run for? -
A good chunk of my loads don't even take 30 minutes. It literally takes me longer to get my straps or chains off than to unload the truck. So i can absolutely see how a guy doing ltl picking up 1 pallet can get in and out in under 5 minutes.

Acme motor freight service.. They were bought out in 1999 by GRANE, (Both Chicago P&D cartage companies )
If your in n out in 5 minutes, You must move a product for a certain manufacturer or shipper,, 5 minutes at EVERY customer tells me they are open and "waiting" on their freight..
I'm surprised you never get to a customer and find every door filled.. -
If I can't get in and out before the truck shuts off by itself, than as far as I'm concerned I took too long.
Not a big deal, but it leaves me thinking about how I can streamline things if possible.Dan.S Thanks this.
