Ten days and counting.
This is the third load with messed up appointment times (they're BS) and my preplan pickup appointment is before my current delivery but I can't get anybody to adjust it.
Even at this late hour I've tried to find a reason to stick around, but Upstairs won't return my calls. (Was thinking maybe a different dispatcher or fleet would make a difference)
I guess they really don't want any veteran drivers any more. I used to really love it here.
Ten more days....
I'm baaaaaack!!!!!!!!

Read in the Holland thread that they lost the ice cream account to Prime. Ahhh, the ever evolving business world.
4mer trucker Thanks this. -
@Captain Zoom Did you ever think about going back to selling cars? I periodically think about ways to get out of trucking....it seems like you have a passion for cars and a dwindling passion for the freight business. Just curious as it seems to be a perfect avenue for you to take.
Or maybe Holland will be a needed new horizon for you. It's good to have options.Lone Ranger 13 Thanks this. -
Here's a car question for you. Let's say you work at Toyota. I always naturally see a bunch of car salesman sitting around because there's no one to sell too. Is there enough of a salary to make a decent living if you have a slow period of not selling?
-
Salary is usually a draw against commission, so basically if you have 3000.00 a month in commission and you had 2000.00 in draws you only get 1000.00 commision check, at least that's how it worked at my Grandfather's Cadillac dealership, and if you were drawing more than you produced in commission after Couple of months then you were cut loose
-
So you're not going to make more than 4-500 a week if it gets slow. Such a cutthroat business.
-
Typically in the sales game there is no salary; if you don't sell, you don't get paid. Conversely, there's no cap either (no government regulation on how much you are allowed to work/produce). I know what it feels like to make almost $30K in one month. I also know how it feels to go six weeks without pay. It all balances out if you're smart about it.
However, since I'm legitimately homeless (thank you Celadon) and have no car and no way to get one, the question asked is moot until I can do something about it.Pintlehook and Rugerfan Thank this. -
Was there a pecking order as to who got to try and sell a customer first?
Pintlehook Thanks this. -
The car business is interesting, for sure. The fluctuation in income would be tough, however.
Captain Zoom Thanks this. -
The salesmen at the Freightliner dealer I used to work at get paid minimum wage plus commission. Asked 'em what it was like being on that kind of pay and they answered "Feast or famine. Have to be careful with your money because you can go from pulling in a pile of money one month, to just drawing a crappy paycheck the next".
A poster on a motorcycling forum I used to frequent got a job at a big name car dealership. He posted a blog on the intake, training and day to day experience of a new to the industry salesman. Was really interesting stuff. Kind of cut throat, some dealing with sales managers who played favorites. Guy actually got yelled at for selling a car. That customer was supposed to go to one of the "senior" salesmen, you see. How dare the new guy take initiative and approach a customer when everyone else was playing the "tactical ignore" game. Was a fun read, but the long of it short is he wound up quitting because he just couldn't handle the B.S of the particular dealership he worked at.Pintlehook Thanks this.
