Why go OTR? If you live in a major city get your cdl and work for the county, pay is pretty decent and you'll get veterans preference for hiring... Are you planning to attend college?

If you are planning to become a driver rather than college find a company that knows how to utilize your chapter 34. Some will give you an additional 400-700/month over the 1st year. Also, your education benefit will cover going to a private cdl school. 2nd, a lot of companies can get you home every weekend-don't automatically assume you have to start at OTR. If you don't mind physical labor go for foodservice-youll be off 2-3 days a week and make more than your average OTR driver.

For my gi Bill. I actually going to transfer it to my daughter so she can go to college in the future and use it. Also I was looking to get otr experience because a lot of the companies near me want otr experience. So my plan is do my one year in otr then transfer to a local route.

Roger that... Is your transition from AD recent? If so your state will pick up the tab on a driving school through WIA, you won't have to use your benefits. LTL and Foodservice company will take you on as a trainee and you'll still be home often. Even starting out you can find regional companies that will get you home weekly(after training, you won't see much of home for 4-6 weeks during)

I am also looking at going there or at least I can dream.. I am interested in getting my CDL through them. I have no tickets or accidents, no criminal history, and never done drugs, my fear is the lack of employment history due to being a stay at home mom, wife, tutor, housekeeper... any advice with JPT? Oh I also have my Permit and Physical done.

Think you have to pass the physical with them during the school. Just put stay at home mom for those times. Thats tougher than trucking lol Just call and speak to their super friendly recruiters.
