Hey guys, I am currently studying for a CDL. I have a Question from the study manual.
    1. The section pertaining to maximum vehicle widths and necessary accessories. It is stated that features like placard holders, strap hardware etc can extend up to 3" on each side of the vehicle, and lights or mirrors as much as 10". The question I have is this in addition to the maximum vehicle width? or does the max widths include this hardware. If a vehicle has a max width of lets say 102", does the accessories have to be within this range as well or can the vehicle be 108" with the strap/chain hardware?

    2. You have an option to split your 10 hr rest after an 11 hour driving time into 2 periods and one must be no less than 8 hr. How does that work?, You complete your 11 hours, you can take a 2 hr break, then drive 10 more hours, take a 8 hour break then drive the last hour?

Thank you for any guidance, I will probably be back now and then if I get stuck on something.

You can only use the split sleeper rule if you did not drive your full 11 hours. The hours you can driver after 8 in sleeper depends on how many hours you drove before. So if you drove 11 you wound not have any hours to drive. If you drove only 4 hours then took 8 hours in sleeper have you would more driving time. The split sleep is not used very much.

The width of a standard modern trailer is 102" (8.5 feet). They used to be 96" (8ft), and some of those are still on the road. Mirrors, strap hardware (on flatbeds), etc. can extend beyond the standard 102" width, but the frame itself is supposed to be within that limit.
