Have a hard time shifting a semi!
I`ve read everything,match rpm and speed,25mph, 5th gear around corners,35mph, 8th gear,45mph,9th gear,55mph,10th gear.
I know which gear,I should be in,but I grind them.
I cannot, for the life of me,figure out double clutching!
I understand the concept,clutch,neutral,clutch,
Gear, but my timing is always off.
Every downshift,I slow down,and clutch,neutral,rev,cluth gear,grind...lol
Someome help me!
Thanks!
What am I missing?

Well.... are you trying to double clutch? or float the gears?
-
floating is way easier that clutching and the mechanics will love you.
Steel Dragon Thanks this. -
Have to double clutch, for the road test..I would imagine.
I love tight backing manuevers,I always do excellent,on the backing part, but feel like a chump, grinding gears.
I know whats required, but always do poor on the road test, due to grinding gears.
Thanks guys. -
Steel Dragon your over thinking it. Stop trying to match MPH and RPM. you have to listen to your truck. feel your truck. a few times while taking off from a stop, see where your correct RPM is and match the sound of your motor to that RPM. Hard to explain I guess but your over thinking it.JReding and Steel Dragon Thank this. -
Every time I would be told "well, just do it once and then you can float".Lepton1 and Steel Dragon Thank this. -
I learned on a concrete truck which only if empty you can skip shift. When I first started I was single clutching. After pouring driveways and clutching my knee took a beating. So I learned how to float the hard way.

Stop rushing it. You have time to find your next gear, slow down your shifting hand. Its easier empty to learn. IGNORE what rev your at, listen to the engine. When up shifting run it up to 18 or so, lay off the gas and the stick can be pushed out easy. Line up for the next gear, lean on it VERY lightly, you will feel but not hear the chatter, a little of the skinny pedal and you will feel the gap, push the stick in. When doing it with the clutch, a light tap of the pedal, you dont need to go deep.
Steel Dragon Thanks this. -
You shift at rpms not road speed.
Steel Dragon Thanks this.
