Worked for Old dominion Freight line for over 3 years doing primarily local. Was virtually turned down at every otr company that I applied for and ended up getting my own authority with flatbed. I thank God everyday that I went ahead and got my own authority.

are you flatbed experienced by chance buddy? I work for a small outfit where the owner is a retired mechanical engineer who does honest work on your rig at cost to keep you moving, and is 15% plus insurance. I know it looks fishy, im not leased on with him, rather im a contractor using his equipment. I get 40% of the load gross before factoring and after fuel, making $1500 to 2500 a week as a company driver, plus you can book your own loads if you want. I use truckers edge to help him out if hes busy, but he is solid dispatch as well. We have a reitenour sitting in yard because one of his leases just expired. Its good money, but you cant be solar powered and youll do ok if you work hard. There is no other company out there that compares to this one. You could mail me your info if interested, minimum experience is 10 years or prior oo experience. Im also incharge of safety and load securement. If you have questions on securement whether you work for us or not, feel free to pm me.

I had some of the same experience in finding work,I have my own authority so I get on a load board and do some power only because I don't have a trailer..The company I haul for is busy for about 8 months a year so I have to look for work during the off season. There are several sites you can fill out an application with and they will match you up with companies.

Toomanybikes, LindaPV and rocknroll81 Thank this. -
One of the reasons that you need over the road experience is that local drivers get to go home nightly. Yes driving in cities is the hardest part about driving but being away from home is the hardest part of OTR work. Companies like to know that you will not quit the first time you get homesick or miss a kids ball game. OTR requires sacrifice and you never know if you will pay the cost of being away from home until you have done it.
Gearjammin' Penguin and dboe197 Thank this. -
OTR is very difficult! I book myself out and take good loads in any direction. After i touch other coast, i book myself towards home by only taking best available. All said and done 5 weeks of hard running. Always thought it would get easier with time, i was wrong.

10 years experience might as well be 0 with none of it being otr you cant even count regional as real experiance even though its not much different then otr doesn't mater
