I think we moved from hijacking to armed robbery.

Yeah, them Overnite equipment were REALLY bad. I forgot what model they were, but I think they were Internationals. I avoided them trucks like the plaque. I'm pretty sure UPSF is getting new tractors soon. @Russian Rabbit probably knows more about it then I do.

    I'm seeing 5-10 years for this...haha

Not me personally, we didn't have any of those trucks. I usually used the Penske rental trucks with the EXTREMELY small liftgate. It wound up being a hand unload for the day the few times I did stright truck resi's.

Yes, you would be starting at $17.20 for anything ON THE CLOCK----fueling, drop and hooking, paperwork, logs etc. Then dockwork is different (may be more or a little less not exactly sure).

THEN when you make your 45 days seniority and get into the union, it goes up to $17.70

BUT for any mileage, like whenever you are actually driving, you start off at .4342 cents per mile.

i am at .4720 because i've got 1.5 years with the company. IN august i will go to .5049 cents per mile and $20.00 per hour.

Unless Palatine is a non-union terminal?

Now, to address certain terminals looking like they belong in a train set; You have to remember that often the terminals we occupy, or for that matter other trucking companies occupy, we were not the original tenant OR had the place specifically built for us.

i think most of the time, but not all the time, it's more cost effective to lease an existing facility rather than to have one built for you. And/or purchase the land.

    Now to address equipment:

    1) Yes there are PLENTY of overnite trailers still in the system. i pulled several this week and pulled one last night. i think it's just better economics to leave them as is rather than to repaint them. Obviously any new trailers we get will say UPS freight on them.

Many of these overnite trailers are in decent condition so i think they are going to be here for quite a while.

We do have quite a few MotorCargo trailers and well, they need a little more help let's just say.......

    2) Yes, we do have a few of those FL70 straight trucks and i drove one for a while. Let's face it, even when new they were subpar. i like freightliner, but this was not one of their better products. Also the liftgates SUCK. They are heavy and too small. We are just now phasing these trucks out and most of them we keep as spares. The new straight trucks have automatics w/torque converter, backup cameras and better liftgates. The international straight trucks are ok, but could use some improvement.

    a) We at this terminal still have quite a few Overnite international 9300 series tractors. Let's put it this way---they get the job done. But i was never a fan of international.

    b) As far as us getting new tractors, i have heard from a fairly reliable source that we are switiching to freightliner (cascadia) and KW. We are having too many problems with Volvo---and this latest recall is like beyond the final straw. Can you blame us?

i'd say a lot of it is not fleet management but the truck companies themselves; These days i think the selection kinda sucks and trucks, a lot due to regulations, have to be more complicated. Before the buyout there was a WIDE variety of trucks at overnite-----Mack F, R and U models, Ford aeromax (a really good truck in my opinion), louisvilles, Volvo/White/GMC's (better than the new volvos in my opinion) Internationals etc.

Another thing to add is that Overnite/UPSF keeps the equipment in very good condition for the most part.

    Feel free to hi-jack.

@Russian Rabbit Whatever happened to the daytime linhaul gig? I think you mentioned you're doing nighttime instead with less miles.

Actually around here in Cleveland the Overnite equipment isn't really all that common any more. In fact it's becoming rarer and rarer. I think they painted a lot of tractors because I saw a brown early 2000s Volvo like a 2000 Volvo painted UPS Brown and it said UPS Freight either they bought it used or repainted it. I can't tell you the last time I saw an Overnite tractor for the most part those are all re branded or painted.

That terminal in Richfield, I discovered a couple weeks ago and thought it looked cool so I went out and grabbed some pictures. I don't know anything about that terminal in Richfield as far as it's history it could have been Preston or Carolina both gone now. I don't think that was originally an Overnite built terminal, but I could be wrong.

The terminal in Cleveland used to be the Old Overnite Terminal always was that was Overnite they built it and then when UPS Freight got in there they took it over obviously. I think a couple weeks ago I saw a UPS Freight linehaul pulling 2 Overnite Pups haven't seen a set up like that in sometime. Gosh I haven't seen a Motor Cargo trailer out here in a very very long time.

I hear you on the re-branding were no different at GFS, about 2 years ago GFS decided they wanted to be Gordon Food Service and decided it was time to re brand the company. Well that can sure get expensive and what they ended up doing and this comes as no surprise is they said "Yeah were not going to bother re branding any of the trailers there's to many of them will just cycle them out instead." So for the next 10-15 years GFS trailers will still be around they will just decrease in numbers little by little by little and in 10 years most of the trailers like you see in my avatar will be gone. That's pretty common. Now tractors it's different, they re branded a good amount of tractors that run out of the warehouse. I can't believe they would re brand all the tractors, because why re brand them all when your not going to re brand the trailers especially because the tractors have a shorter life span then the trailers?

There was a rumor they were going to re-brand our tractors, but we have a bunch of 2007 tractors that are probably not to far from being sold so why spend money re-branding units like that.

I took my CDL test in a Freightliner FL-70 and a 45' trailer gosh was that thing pathetic I got on the highway and the inspector said "Go hammer down don't worry about it will be lucky to get up to 50."
