Well, once the public gets to bite the Apple, they're going to have a tough time trying to take it away, if at all. So, for the foreseeable future, economics will just have another shift with the next President. Bad or good, I don't know. But, from what older people say, it's basically all just going to screw us bottom people either way.

I just thought of something...
If you are working 70 hours in a week (7 days not 8 )8)every week, you are breaking the law. So let's compare apples to apples and not oranges.
These are hypothetical numbers, but sure, let's just say in 7 days, the average person gets in 2500 miles. (I doubt MOST actually do this in just 7 days consistently, but let's go with that. Now let's say they only average 50 mph (it's probably higher, but I'm playing your game), so that's 50 hours. Let's say we calculate their PTI at 30 minutes/day (most people don't even do 1 minute) and fuel at 15 minutes 3 times a week (2500 miles so that's about right). So that's 4:15 or 54:15. We'll say 4 loads a week, that's say 10 minutes of work at both ends or another 1:20, total 55:35 of actual work. So even at .40 that's over $18/hr without touching extra stop pay, layover, detention, tarp, etc. -
As @stayinback said, what's the alternative? Would have no voice otherwise. I worked for a company and a few years ago when the economy crashed they lowered wages and quit contributing to our 401k's and have yet to give back any of that many years later. United we prosper, divided we beg. I'll support the Teamsters as long as there are people who will drive for 10 cents a mile and l/p guys that will rent a job with no benefits.
Maybe I should start a nationwide organization to represent otr drivers, we won't call it a union we'll have to think of a less polarizing title.Last edited: May 18, 2016

Isn't that what OOIDA is supposed to be for it is it just OO under their own authority? Do LO drivers get the same supposed benefits ? Not that I hear them getting very far with anything the way it is . speed limiters and ELogs are gonna be the name of the game soon so why exhaust resources instead of going after bigger problems. Why should companies pay more when there is no driver shorts or DURKA DURKA is willing to drive for 1/2 no one is around to tell us otherwise. Maybe a union would be a good thing then we might actually see this big strike drivers have been beating their chests for years over. I think I'll have a better chance finding Sasquatch before we ever see that happening

Are you getting paid to load/unload, drop n hook, pre/post trip, or for your mandatory 30 minute break? How about traffic delays and overtime? The .40 cpm x 2500 miles week example is good arithmetic IF YOU AVERAGE 60 mph and don't do anything extra, which we know doesn't happen in the trucking world.

They're the O/O equivalent of the ATA in my eyes. I'd never give them a dime -
I'm betting the government is wanting to lift everyone's expected earnings just so the IRS can collect more at the end of the year. Obviously, business execs can play the game a whole lot better at profiting.

They also don't pay for the amount of time some sit to wait for work or wait til appointment times or time away from home having to camp in the truck. When you ask them why, all they say is, "nobody else pays for that. That's what trucking is all about. "Pintlehook Thanks this.

Should drives get paid for pre trips, we almost never see driver doing pre trips. I'm just saying people can make truck sound bad because some people think you should get paid for 30 minute break and other say no. Not everyone in regular job get paid lunch. We do have detention pay now. Not every pays it yet but it better then what it use to be. My new company job as drive they will pay me detention pay even if customer does not pay them. Some people think we should get paid to sleep since we are not home with family. We would have raise the freight rate up to pay for all these thingstruckthatpassesyouby Thanks this.
