How do refers make good money?

If you are company driver then dry van is way to go.
I lease so pulling refer pays better than dry most times.
Some company guys do refer because it's easier to get loads home sometimes. Dry vans are mostly drop and hook and refer is live unload mostly.

 

It's all about the company you work for. My company pays company drivers 50 cpm and 52 for East coast rate. All tolls, lumpers and scales are paid. And 18 dollars an hour after the first two hours even if you break down you go on the clock. I'm now an 0/0 for them but when I was in there truck I made good money.

 

I thought about doing refer when i start but after more reading like this thread I'll pass. Plus a refer is just another thing to break down. The companies i see usually only pay a few cents more per mile for refer. For only about $50 more a week pay to deal with the extra headaches is not worth it to me.

 

Shouldn't tolls and scales paid for be a given for company drivers?

 

Yea but I was reading another thread of a company driver asking if was normal to have to pay tolls and lumpers.. he was a company driver. Everyone told him to find a new job lol. But yea you would think so right

 

You could net 4k per month working for Calex out of Pittston Pennsylvania running 2 trips to Cali every month.

 

Frock brothers trucking out of New Oxford Pennsylvania runs trucks to California and back and the driver is given the option of not making the delivery in exchange for having $10 deducted from his check.
Then the company has a local driver make the delivery. That would be pretty cool to come back from California and drop the trailer in the yard and go home and let someone else make your delivery while you're getting your 34-hour reset.
