If you go with JBS, don't do the Texas Regional; not enough miles to make a decent paycheck for a married man. Maybe that's changed now, I don't know. That's just a question you can ask.

Over the road is a endurance time run. Once you start rolling out, you have 11 hours to get somewhere safe for your sleeper break. (Not including any on duty like loading, unloading, inspection, fuel etc)
You are going to understand how to stand over a truck stop mechanic changing a alternator in a hour because you are now 20 minutes late and a stack of call mes are piling up on your qualcomm.
you are going to be hungry unless you carry food. Be generous with enough food for a week yourself and half extra for anyone who is hungry especially when you first arrive in a disaster. Several cases of water is anohter. Rotate them and keep them fresh. Traveler's water out west is bad. If you drink local water instead of a national bottled brand you can potentially put yourself into the hospital.
Im not going to worry about people things, you are you. But there will be prositutes and LGBTQ coming around to bother you in certain places. Try to avoid them at all costs. Any kind of STD afflicting you will have the potential of either ending your driving life or actually killing you when it reaches the brain.
Take time to get home. You gotta tell your family when you get there, they have one hour to wrestle, horseplay and get the gotta this gotta that out of the way. Then after that hour go shut the door into either your sleeper or your bedroom (A twin bed away from the main bedroom) and no not let anyone bother you, call you, visit etc until YOU. ARE. RESTING. However long that takes.
that resting inclues the time it takes to get the weight off your shoulders and stop being pissed at the dispatcher.
Good luck.skeeterbilt cfh Thanks this. -

Do the research on an otr company as they are not created equal. If you enjoy the physical aspect of work, melton hires (new) drivers and trains on flat beds while paying more than reefer or van. There is another flat bed operation out of AL?, that does same. You probably will have to spend a few weeks with trainer lacking otr experience. I mention flat bed as it seems ideal for a younger fit guy and usually pays better.
May your ventures bring you good fortune. -
(for you newbies; "20" means "location." That's CB radio lingo.Lepton1, Razorwyr and skeeterbilt cfh Thank this. -
