And I saw my comment on Regulations.org page today... it takes a few days for them to review it and give the "green light"... I wonder if they consider our comments... but I give them anyway...

Just a bunch of trucks clogging up the roads will only infuriate the motoring public... if they don't know what is going on.... If this crap becomes reality, it's going to cause A LOT of accidents and A LOT of RAGE... The public has to know what is causing it... otherwise WE will be the villains...
Forget this Ecm stuff... it may help YOU a little bit but not much... when all roads are constantly blocked with lots and lots of slow trucks... :biggrin_2552:
I drive a company truck governed at 65 mph... some folks say I should not worry about... BUT I DO WORRY ABOUT... cause this will be insane for EVERYBODY... and I do know how bad it's not to have some more speed to get out of potential crash situations and how important it is to be able to go a little faster sometimes to "clear" a lane, keep the traffic flowing, etc, etc...
Heck... folks talking about causing road block... 4 wheelers will shoot at us... :biggrin_25523: EVIL TRUCKS! :angry5:

My "trip back home"... Where is my home...? :dontknow:

I guess you are referring to Brasil... right? Well... even though that hasn't been my home for over 24 yrs now, I think America needs some fierce and loud protests... With so much social media, Facebook, Twitter and such, I wish truckers in this country were a little more connected with each other and organized... OOIDA seems to be the only one fighting some for us...

Hell just read a report saying that a tire size change from 295/r60 22.5 to 315/r80 22.5 will turn the 68mph limited truck to a 80.5mph truck.

I don't like it either way, but why not just a max speed limit of 65 for trucks? What is the logic in limiters?

I usually run 64 as an 0/0 for the fuel savings, but for safety, i can speed up or slow down as necessary. Why limit in computer and force more turtle races? With 1 truck that can for .01 faster on uphill against the heavy one going .01 faster on downhill.

It would indeed make more sense to just have a nationwide 65 mph speed limit for trucks than do the limiter thing. We all know of occasions where being able to "put a wiggle in it" to get on around another vehicle, like passing on two lane roads, can be much safer if the truck is not limited physically to a set speed. I generally run around 62 myself, as I don't like spending more on fuel and tires than I have to, but there are times when I need to kick it up and get around something to prevent problems, then I just go back to what I was doing.

Why on earth would we want a national speed limit that applies ONLY to trucks? Just because YOU made the decision to run 62 and it works for YOUR operation doesn't mean that everybody is in the same boat. I go home every night. The extra fuel I burn running the 70 mph speed limit doesn't come close to what it would cost me to stay out overnight at a motel because those 5 mph I couldn't run cost me an hour over the course of my day...so now instead of getting home with 30 minutes to spare, I'm stuck in a motel room 30 minutes from the house.

The states have been getting rid of their split speed limits after carefully reviewing the studies and seeing that the SAFEST scenario on our highways happens when ALL traffic is moving at the same speed. I had a conversation with a state trooper who didn't like it when Illinois got rid of their split speed. He liked being able to pick out the trucks for easy tickets, and claimed they were "bigger, heavier, and took longer to stop". I asked him if motorcycles ought to be allowed to run 10 mph faster than the cars, because they are smaller, lighter, and stop much quicker and he said "No, it doesn't work that way". If you won't allow for smaller, lighter, more maneuverable vehicles that can stop quicker to travel a little faster, your argument that the bigger, heavier, less maneuverable vehicle that takes a little longer to stop should travel slower just doesn't hold much water with me.

If you want "safety", then ALL traffic needs to be moving at the same speed. If you want to save fuel, YOU are free to back out of it a little. Don't tell ME that I have to abide by YOUR business decisions, though, because YOUR business is different than mine.

Time is money, and I've done the math. Slowing down below the speed limit has NEVER shown to be worth more in savings than what my time is worth. Might be different if you're living in your truck, but not everyone does. The net/hour average my truck brings home drops if I slow down below the speed limit to "save fuel".

I didn't say anything about wanting a national speed limit for trucks, I said it would be a better approach than physically speed limiting them. I realize that public school reading programs are lost on some folks. I see that my tax money for your education was wasted.
