Fun with trucking.

Yea I know it just seems so unreasonable to me because I do a lot of short overnight hauls well within the legal 14 hours, and receivers are sometimes good sometimes not so good. Depends a lot if it's say 58 boxes of watermelons or 3000 different products in different boxes. If I were to tell the receiver "I have to take my 10 hour break before I arrive because I don't know how long it will take you to unload and could put me into an hos violation situatkon" - I wouldn't have to worry about delivering there for very long.

 

Isn't the term "truck driver" synonymous with politician? Lol ..

Yea I had to leave Miami once and was way out on my hours. I unloaded and worked my way to that one truckstop. Luckily, it had one parking space so I got it. The boss then called and said he had a load there in Miami that had to be picked up today. I told him I only had an hour left on the elog. He said Ill call them and see if you can park on their lot to take your break. I went on over there (This was at 4pm and traffic was a mess). They got me loaded and I asked if the boss had contacted them. They said yes and it was ok for me to park on their lot and take my break. I pulled out in the corner of their lot, got in the sleeper. About 3 hours later, a guy in a city pickup was banging on my door. He said you gotta move on. I said well these people said I could take my break here. He said dont matter what they said, theres a city ordinance against it. I said well Im out of hours, cant really go anywhere. He said thats fine, I can have it towed. I tried to talk him into just letting me finish my break but he wouldnt have it. I called the boss and told him and he said well just go find a truckstop. about 30 miles later I found a truckstop that had a parking spot.

 

Show up to shipper/consignee and log 15 minutes on duty. Then use pc to get to a t/s or someplace to park for break. Pc back to shipper after break, let them do there thing and then start ur day, 14 intact.

 

So, drive back into the city, then start my day from there and then backtrack again to make my way home. What a marvelous idea.

 

You will never get Law Makers on the same page with truckers. If you examine CSpan House of Representatives, you will see that outside of Committee only about 10 to 20 members are present with Clerks and Chair most of the working day prior to vote passage. Everyone else is gone unless called onto the floor roll call and votes.

Leadership determine agenda for the working day in the House.

 

They can't tow you when you are inside the vehicle. But they probably could get a cop to get you outside your vehicle and into the back seat of one of theirs. But the worst part of that story is that a company has no control at all what goes on on their private property. Another example of how govt at all levels is convinced they own everything in the country, and just allow you to borrow it at their discretion.

 

That's exactly what you and every other driver that has to deliver to customers like that need to do.Until that happens it will never change.

 

Yea and Im allergic to the back seat of a police car! LOL
