Pay seems kinda low, but if you don't mind hard work and really odd hours/shifts it might be a good job. Will get better after you are able to bid on a run.
IS YRC WORTH IT????

I had not heard of them until now. I looked around on their site and didn't see a link to apply online.
I also didn't mention that I only have 5 months experience. -
If ya want my opinion, No it's not worth it! I've been with them 14 months now and the job/company sucks! I make 19.30 an hour, 4-6 hrs OT a week if ya lucky! The pension? A joke almost bankrupt, empty! And the equipment? Forget it! We have a mixed bag of garbage, Sterlings, Macks, Volvos, and 2 Crapnationals! Never washed ever!!! Look into NEMF, Conway, or ABF. I worked 44hrs this week, pay take home $651! I live in NY Long Island, not a cheap tax-free place to live!
roel1177, Coover, Surfer Joe and 2 others Thank this. -
I am a bit weary of how quick they were to hire me. It made it seem as if it they are extremely desperate.
What kind of work are you doing out there? -

If you don't mind being gone 3-5 days a week see if they are hiring for sleeper teams. All you do is drive to the terminals and get out of the truck. Yard guys build your sets and your on the clock while waiting. Clock time for break downs, fueling, road closures. Just about any delay.

I started with YRC about 1.5 years ago doing line haul. IMO , you would be nuts to pass up a job where you make a 'little' less with FREE med, dent & vision. You should start at 85% of full rate...get a 5% pay raise for the first 3 years, plus any Contractual pay raises.. the ones everyone gets. You'll be home every day and get 48 off every week, those days could vary from week to week.. as the years go by and your seniority goes up, you'll get better bid/start times and life gets better.
superflow Thanks this. -
The barn you work at, and the taxes of the State you reside in make a difference too. I worked for Reddaway in Wyoming, and I just got the offer from YRC in San Antonio, TX. Both "No income tax" States. I pulled down more than $700 a week at Reddaway even on slow weeks, and I was top scale at $19.51. The insurance is the real draw. My co-worker and I at Reddaway ran the numbers on the insurance premiums that you would pay to have the same insurance paying for it out of your own pocket. Just for me to cover myself with the same coverage, and deductibles would run $1600 / month +. They also cover your spouse for free. Handshake......Deal. Given that I was already part of the family once, so to speak, call me jaded. But the insurance really saved our bacon on several occasions, big time. The SA barn doesn't run line haul, it's all run out of Dallas. The TM told me that they are really short of drivers, so OT wasn't going to be an issue. I was also told that the call is optional, as he can tell you before you leave, when he will probably need you in the next day if you don't have a bid time. I was told that I will probably be on the dock for a while each day, and then do shuttle runs as they have several big DC accounts, and it will save the senior drivers from straying from their routes to get them done, so that won't be too bad.

If you need a job, take it! I worked at Yellow twice, actually... Once when it was Yellow (before all the cuts), and after they became YRC they hired me back, since I'm just that good! And I was actually full-time!
I walked a second time, since they've gone to poop now. I was expecting Yellow. YRC is not Yellow.
All things considered, if you can handle some dock work, and P&D work, you are fairly paid for your time.
Nonetheless, Yellow isn't what it once was... Therefor I ditched. However, not the worst place to work.LtlAnonymous Thanks this.
