(related to above about technology) I was at a Walmart and a elderly gentleman couldnt get a job there because he had never used or understood how to use a computer mouse.
Otherwise I tend to think, we of the older generation will make better workers than the kids these days. It is in our schooling. We just seem to have a better grasp of what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior.91B20H8 Thanks this. -
I didnt mean to make the above a slam against the youthful generation. It just seems that the generation after us didnt have the quality that our generation had with the do's and dont's of what to do in life.
91B20H8 Thanks this. -
I think as you get older, the TYPE of trucking plays a bigger part.
I've seen many older drivers switch over to dump trucks when they decided they wanted something less labor intensive. -
I'm 64 still do flatbed everyday...have a couple buddies in the mid seventies still doing flatbed..so it can be done..
audeygdad, 91B20H8 and lovesthedrive Thank this. -
Glad to hear the "Old" guys still have it, I was 64 when I started Driving, am 73 now and still going strong, keep it up everyone

im 52 and switched to flatbed recently partially because its more labor intensive .

Only nice thing about flat bed is that usually you wont have to lump the load. However, when I was with Western Express I met a driver whom was driving a skateboard of house shingles. The load shifted in the desert and he had to go and manually restack the whole load in 120+ F mid day heat.
Something I dont see happening with a van. -
I saw a Western Express driver reloading 2x4's in the hammer lane of I-85 about an hour outside of Atlanta......no joke.
