Florida has a kingpin to rear axle length rule too. I think it's 41ft. We had a guy ticketed. Now have permits for it in our permit books. When I et back to the truck after the weekend I can update with specific info if you want.

That makes sense. I was looking at it purely from a how to load stand point.
I dont come out your way very much. Never in Canada. The rare time am in Cali,.. I have not been hassled.

Upper deck length won't change overall length whether it's a 53 or any other length. Could be 8/45;10/43;11/42: all adds up to 53'.

Will not change overall length on trailer yes, but will change overall length on the composition if you do not move fifth wheel. And going shorter on upper deck you are more limited on king pin setting to get enough swing clearance.

Will be appreciated.Thanks!

Have a question for you.How much pay load you can legally scale with your rig?
I just spec. my trailer and seems to me a bit heavy.Probably will be able to scale 45 k. with mine.Hurst Thanks this. -
Full of fuel and all my gear I scale 34,480. So roughly 45k lbs.
How ever.. I have 150 gal tanks. I can cut back to 1/2 tank and easily scale 46k lbs.
I'd like to put together a step set up where I could scale 47k lbs. Its not that critical as most of my loads are under 40k lbs anyway.

Our permit cost $30. It says "configuration: truck tractor with 48'-53' semi trailer with kingpin setting >41' ". Says travel is permitted all days, all hours. Permit is valid for over length trailer only. Red/white reflective material meeting 49 CFR 571.108 is required. I think the 30 bucks is the important part to them!mmssvv Thanks this.

I recently found out out about a little known rule in TN. Kingpin can be no further than 50' from the rear of trailer, so that would be 36" KP setting. If you buy the $500 annual permit, you're fine though. I have an 18" KP on a 53 step
