I definitely understand i come from a military family... it didn't need to be thrown in.. It's a somber holiday no need to get technical..a simple like or just look over the comment would've been good as well...i tell you we sni guys have to have an answer or opinion about everything.. this doesn't go on in other forum threads. Only with us.. can't even show appreciation without a backhand comment.. shessh
Opus, 91B20H8 and alpha beta Thank this. -
As a Marine, I will stand up at the position of attention whenever TAPS is played. Maybe if we all took the time to think of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice , then EVERYDAY would be a memorial Day. Then when Memorial Day is upon us, we will know the true meaning.48Packard, PoleCrusher, 88 Alpha and 5 others Thank this.

I see no problem with thanking vets on any day - make it a point to do so whenever I see one. Tomorrow, however, is for remembering those who sacrificed all for the freedoms we enjoy. As alpha beta said, if we remembered every day, tomorrow would be more meaningful.
To the families - whether by blood or service - of those who died in service, thank you. Those two words are never going to be enough, but they're a start.PoleCrusher, rickybobby, 91B20H8 and 4 others Thank this. -

Along the same or similar vein as "Taps", allow me a moment to say this:
Can we please remember, and even emphasize this to our kids, the last line in "The Star Spangled Banner" is "O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave", NOT "Play Ball" or "Gentleman, start your engines!".
I don't even want to go down the path of how our National Anthem needs to be performed properly, no added words or notes.Last edited: May 29, 2016

I heard an interesting discussion piece in a podcast this week recommending that we stop playing the national anthem before sporting events except for special occasions (patriotic holidays, championship games, etc). The reasoning behind this was that we hear it so much that it loses its meaning. Each MLB team alone plays 162 games a season, which means the anthem is played 162 times. They also asked why we even play the anthem at sporting events in the first place, since with a few notable exceptions, they aren't national events.
I'm in no way trying to disrespect anyone here. The previous post just made me think of the podcast I listened to this week.mickimause Thanks this. -
Problem isn't playing the anthem, it's that most spectators don't know or care about the anthem or its history or meaning.
Sometimes we as a country take for granted what no other country has even experienced or fought for. It's not enough to be patriotic because the calendar says so, we need to actually know Why we're supposed to be patriotic. It's truly an American thing!!!48Packard, PoleCrusher, mickimause and 4 others Thank this. -
Home. Trying to do my laundry and get ready to leave early tomorrow and some drunk idiot decided to drive into a telephone pole a few blocks away knocking out the power. Thanks jerk.
