Authority questions

Hi Guys,

Bobtail is not cheap course include physical damage for truck, for new WHITE volvo will be close to 500 per month in best case.

For newbie in trucking im not recommend own authority after 4 months, lease to some one and learn.

Let say if you pay 10% from gross. (you have money every week or even next day after del, no headache with dispatch and papers)

If you have own auth. gonna use factoring company for 3-4% to get money quick, or use quick pay will be 2-3% anyway,
liab and cargo for new MC will be more then you pay under leased company, you CANT get same prices from SPOT market as experienced dispatcher, so you will be more then 10% out of pocket after all. At least for first year.

 

What equipment you going to be hauling?

 

Driver go for it, I'm in the process of doing mine right now. I'm shopping around for insurance just waiting on some quote reply. A lot of whom discouraging you from doing it have never done it and will never do it. They rather build someone else company than build their own. To me i rather fail on my own than fail under a lease company or be somebody ##### as an employee. You will do a whole lot better picking you own load than depending on someone to send you what they feel like sending you

 

I been doing it for a while and I'm good but just looking out for others I guess. There's just too much hype about having it. But enter at your own risk. It's not all about booking your own loads than your employer doing it. It's about how well the loads pay and the overall brains of having your own authority. Insurance for the first year, prepare to pay 12-15k for reefer/van. Good luck my friend.

 

As a new driver you want some time behind the wheel. The insurance rate will be much lower with say 3 years experience than 6 months.

 

Your biggest hurtle in your case would be insurance. Several factors affect that number, driving experience, driving record, credit score, location, age of truck and so on. Some guys pay $20k/yr and some pay $6k for the same coverage. Once you get past that the process of acquiring it and maintaining it isn't bad. The quarterly filings can be done online with ease if you keep the proper mileage records. Drug consortium can be done through OOIDA. One of the biggest pains is just filing all the broker packets so you can haul there dirt cheap loads. I would strongly recommend getting more experience for a while and getting a feel for the type of freight and potential customers in your area you could go to direct as they can be a lifesaver when its slow like it is now. See whats hot and whats not as far as what line of trucking you want to get into. Meanwhile there is some good threads on here about guys with there experiences with there own authority.

did you actually fill a employment app. On yourself.Ive had my athority for about 7 years just me don't lease on or hire.Ive never filled out a application on myself.Im not in any drug testing program ether .And was not when dot did my safety audit about 5or 6 years ago.Dot officer told me keep nose clean no one will ever check the if they did no drug testing program for a one person company is a warning only.no need to have a application on yourself.
