Yea I love the western express want ads in the northeast. Make up to $70k your first year, $1500 sign on bonus. See the country and travel to exciting destinations. It's all lies. I went to a private cdl school called Professional Drivers Institute. My class had about 15 people in it ages 21 to 70. When asked why they were there, everyone replied that they always dreamed of driving tractor trailer. Now the course was one month. I tested out early after 3 weeks. A few students it took 20 weeks for them to be able to pass the new York state rd test but they passed. Anyhow I stayed in touch with about 7 people from class. After 18 months I'm the only driver who stayed with their starter company. It's a small husband wife company with 15 tractors. We do tanker and end dump, see my avatar. 2 quit driving after about 6 months and 6 out of 7 had signed on to 2 or more companies. One guy made it a full yr and quit trucking. They all started out with megas like prime, werner, western express and roehl. I didn't wanna to spend 2 to 6 weeks with a stranger who had the title of trainer but might have only been driving for 6 months so I went another route. I'm making triple the take home pay that they were/are. I plan my own routes, fuel and sleep when and where I want to and drive when I want. I'm not a lease or owner operator. I was just blessed with an excellent job. Sorry if I got of topic but low pay, ludicrous rules as well as unreasonable expectations, lack of training and out right lies is why I think there's a high turnover. Definitely no driver shortage tho.
Why drivers are always wanted?
