of course it is, whether it's a copy or hard copy, in "possession" is a "technicality", nevertheless, i get it, i'm sure you have an obligation to clarify matters according "law", so my bad, no need to argue an irrational law here....you are right to add on this point, after all we're not here to teach renegade 101.

I agree being as it is 2016 and every police car has a computer that will rival NORAD, any occifer that runs your name, it pops up with your entire life story including a photo.
In fact the DOT boys get your CSA score and what you keep getting hit for in seconds.Last edited: Jun 1, 2016

I know and the guy who handles safety at our terminal in Henderson co even agreed I could have used a photocopy of my license and got routed home to fix my problem but headquarters made a decision to bus me home. So I arrived in long beach Cali and took care of my license problem at the DMV cloest to the bus station

I just went online for CA. You can print out a temporary
https://interactive.web.insurance.ca.gov/eLicense/Demonrogue Thanks this. -
As per here:
and this is the offense:
Upon a 2nd conviction of that you are barred from operating a CMV for 60 days. However, according to the footnote, as long as you provide proof that you have a valid CDL the citation will be overturned. So even if you got nailed for not having it in your possession while holding a printed out temp (which is still ridiculous because the first thing any officer does when they get back to your vehicle, after they grab your papers, is run your license to verify it anyway...) you aren't guilty unless you fail to provide proof later.MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
I have been checked by D.O.T. after I lost my license and I just told them I lost it and gave them the number of the license and they run it and just told me to get another as soon as I could. That was several years ago though. At that time, your Social Security Number was your License Number.

I didn't say that was the only spare key I have, I was just stating what is in the bag.MidWest_MacDaddy and tucker Thank this.

Isn't that between you and the officer? And then only IF you get stopped? If it's not needed then who cares.

Ya, it's all in the system... Just because you don't have the physical card on you doesn't mean you are not still in their system as a Class A driver.
Now I don't suggest just running around without it on a daily basis but this is certainly a case of letting common sense prevail. You have a copy of it, either in the truck or faxed to you, and they can look you up in the system to verify.Last edited: Jun 5, 2016
