Very true Doc. The vast majority of our people are friendly and willing to help out anyone who asks questions.
I'm glad it's working out well for you.

They didn't say anything about cameras.
The truck that I'm driving now has a camera that looks both ways.I like the forward facing part but don't like the other part. At bed time, I just put the visor down!
I don't know if they can see you anytime or not?? Some drivers say they can, but the safety man told me they can't. You don't think a safety man would lie to a driver! LOL -
It might be a year or two before you even have a truck with an outward pointing camera here. Most of us are against he inward pointing camera. Walmart does listen and compromise sometimes. You should have heard their initial idea of the cell phone policy. Many still don't like what exists today, but it's been watered down drastically compared to what they were talking about at first.

Most drivers I have talked to are against cameras facing the driver.I was told by a friend of mine who runs out of another D.C. that they were told at a grassroots meeting recently they were coming and definitely one would be facing driver.I have been around here long enough to know that Wal-Mart will do what they want to do and we can take it or leave it and we will be the last to know. All that matters anymore is profits and management bonuses.

Yeah, it's definitely a different creature since Sam died. The 2017's we are getting in do have the outward pointing camera, but not an inward pointing camera. Walmart has deep pockets and it gets really expensive when they mess up. It might be a little while before they feel comfortable putting in that inward pointing camera. At one meeting mgt pointed out they have a team of attorneys telling them what they can do. Someone else pointed out how many lawsuits they had lost lately. They even need to worry about someone staging an incident where that inward pointing camera catches something it shouldn't. The payoff they face could be huge.

Our 2017's have what looks like a camera but is actually a lane departure warning. It detects if you are drifting to close to the line and gives you an audible warning. When we had our grass roots last week, Elizabeth from Bentonville was there and said she knows of no plans for rear facing cameras.

That's what I've been told too. That doesn't necessarily indicate a permanent position; Things are always subject to change. I've been outwardly lied to by places I've worked for in the past, but I haven't experienced that here at Walmart. Some drivers say they have, but I've never experienced it. The company is changing like others have mentioned, but it still beats every other place I've worked by far.
Edit: I haven't looked at the new 2017's rolling in yet so I haven't seen the camera for myself. I've just been told to expect forward looking cameras. I saw a 20+ year driver get out of one of the 17's and I asked him what he thought of it. He said the camera was pointing in the right direction. (out) I'm going to laugh if he mistook that lane departure device for a camera.Last edited: Jun 2, 2016

I've made it past the initial phone screen and he told me that someone from the DC would be calling to schedule a visit to the DC to continue the process soon.
He made it sound as if it was a given that I'd be doing a pretrip and road test.
So, are the "interviews" with HR, Safety and the terminal manager just formalities?
I was led to believe that there is a specific order and you can be eliminated from consideration at any of those steps, 3 of which are prior to the pretrip (interviews with HR, Safety Mgr, and Terminal Mgr). But just before the recruiter hung up with me he said "Good luck with your road test" as if it is a given that I'll get at least that far. Is that correct?
Also, I have a well kept full beard, do I need to shave it down? I'm not like a member of the Duck Dynasty or anything like that, but it is longer than the short scruff that I used to wear.
I'm always well groomed and neat. But if they have a "thing" against full beards I want to know before I travel to the DC so I can trim it down or shave. In other words, I don't it to be an issue.
