Look, the rule is full of holes and may even be delayed.
Trucks 1999 and older are exempt
The owner/dispatcher can still edit driving time. The software must "keep a record" of edits, but there is nothing to stop an owner operator from editing the edit file so it looks like no edits occured.
In short, the rule only affects those who play by the rules, i.e. folks who did not need an elog in the first place...2CAN, barnmonkey, tinytim and 4 others Thank this. -
Because of the wide variation in "interpretations" built into the current EOBR's, which are different than the ELD's, the FMCSA at this moment cannot even tell the manufacturer's how to program ELD's. Our company has already tried to purchase them and has been told they won't be available until the FMCSA makes decisions on the dozens of interpretations out there. And that involves changing HOS regulations.
I can't wait to see how it turns out... -
Since there are many ways to cheat an eld, what good will their implementation do ? What will be the fmcsa's next step ?Bean Jr. Thanks this. -

Perhaps, elogs are just there to help ensure that those crunch times cannot be met, thus eliminating the need for as many otr trucks as possible. So then anything over 600-700 miles gets put on a train. ./shrug

OOIDA is going to the Supreme Court with it. Maybe if Trump gets in, he can have some say. -
