However my registration card and tags carry up to 20 K lbs I had to pay almost $400 for that registration

Being in compliance is based on Gross Weight. By your interpretation you could build a stinger out of Upsadasium that empty weighs 3 lbs and run as heavy as you want all day long.

I believe in NC here they have different weight classes. You can buy a weighted plate that registers your vehicle for as much as weight as you want to pull. A For Hire plate as I have is the same as a weighted plate and you can register it for as much weight as you want but it will cost a lot more. I paid for up to 20K Lbs to be hauled by my truck and trailer. I don't think I will ever reach that weight, and I believe now that is why that one DOT at the weigh station asked only to see my registration probably to see what I was weighted for I am sure if I was over-weight he would put me out of service or a fine or something. It is the exact reason I put the weight up high so I know I wont ever have to question my loads

Nobody is questioning your weight, other than the fact that you are over 10k lbs with no medical card.

The speed limit for Trucks from Knoxville up to Morristown is 55 mph. You go 70 through there and youll get a serious violation ticket if they catch you.

    Terry270 Thanks this.

Recaps are not required but its best to do them so you know you have enough hours to run.

Yea the 7,000 lbs is the gross weight that can be hauled on the trailer, including the trailer weight. I have an 18' with two 3500 lb axles, my trailer weighs 2000 lbs empty so I can haul up to a 5000 lb load. My gross weight cannot be over 7000 lbs (Trailer & Load). Thats how it was explained to me by the Manufacturer anyway. My title shows the gross weight of the trailer cannot be over 7000 lbs.
Im not registered Commercially because I use the trailer for my own personal business- Im not for hire. The Registration he has may allow him to haul that much weight on that trailer, I dont know how that works?

Its probably kinda like hauling heavy equipment, 80000 gross is the legal limit but if you get a permit for it, you can haul 150,000? lol

Actually the whole thread is the exact opposite. This thread is about wanting to be in the pseudo trucking business...hauling for hire, but without CDL, Medical, etc, etc. Go 80 and up and you actually need all that.

    Terry270 Thanks this.

Good Luck with that. One way or the other the feds will be involved if it involves interstate commerce.
