Do you get to choose the routes you take to a desitination or is that set by company so you can only take short route even if it would take longer? A lot of times more miles on the interstate and not take as long. Wasn't sure if companies made you take the short route every time even if that ment it be a longer (time) drive.

 

Key thing you need to consider is how many miles you are going to average. Joe Doe trucking can offer you 46 cpm but if you only get 1,000 miles a week compared to Jane Doe trucking offering you 36 cpm but you average 3,000 miles week. Food for thought hope you do great!

 

Most people don't understand per diem. If Stevens is offering 10 cpm per diem, what that means is that 10 cents per every mile you drive in a pay period isn't taxed. The company I drive for now deducts my per diem from my gross pay, calculates my taxes, then adds my per diem back into my check. Stevens, I believe, does it the same way.

 

Appreciate your guys replies. What is Stevens trucks governed at? Also, as far as the repayment of the school loan is that paid off after a year or is it 3 years?

 

Trucks governed at 62. To pay the school back I do believe it takes 3 years unless you pay more. I have been here for over a year and an alliance driver after one month have not had any negative settlements still make around 1000 solo some weeks better some worse. Started training now on student 5 pay is a little better but hard to run two clocks with all the restrictions it is a learning curve. I feel Stevens is a great company to start with learn the lanes and how to make your clock work for you. As a company driver you follow the directions they give. you can call your Dm and have them change your route line if you can show it's a better way as alliance I can pick my route and where I stop for fuel as I am paying for my fuel I work with my Dm to get the miles added. They do pay zip code to zip code. So yes if you have a pick and drop 25 miles apart but in the same zip code you only get paid one mile. Saftey is big here. And people they "screw over" are not always as innocent as they make it sound. If your not making money don't blame Stevens look at what you are not doing. Are you running hard or driving 400 miles and sitting for 12 hrs. Are you not calling your Dm asking for repowers when you are early on your load. Are you not asking the shippers and receiver if they have parking and stopping 39 miles before just to start your clock to sit. Are you not asking for pre plans a day before you get there. Low miles means you are running recap hours and the computer won't let them dispatch you on a good mile load 34 can be a friend.

 

Im not sure but im guessing 63 or 64 I know when I see one up in front of me I start moving over into the hammer lane.

Has it changed? I remember clearly that per diem is part of the company driver pay. A friend, who went back to company side after being with Alliance leasing, noted that his per diem went to seven cents while he was training, and that was within the last three months.

 

It's as I described it a little further back in this thread. Trucking companies don't actually "pay" per diem as it's a meal allowance. Plus, per diem is optional, or at least it used to be.
